‘Mammootty sir was trapped…’: Alappuzha Gymkhana director Khalid Rahman recalls working on his 2nd movie with superstar

In a recent interview, the director of Alappuzha Gymkhana, Khalid Rahman, shared memories of collaborating with the renowned actor Mammootty on the movie Unda. He discussed this in an article for Galatta Plus and detailed how he pitched the film to Mammootty.

In the interview, Khalid Rahman expressed that Mammukka is an exceptional individual, consistently showing respect towards them. He noted that Mammootty sir found himself in the movie “Unda” as everyone else on set was under 30 years old. This made him seem like an older, perhaps less fortunate character since he was the only elder among the group.

Khalid Rahman pointed out that, in order to make everyone comfortable, Mammootty often lowered himself during interactions, as he didn’t want anyone to be intimidated due to his status as a prominent actor.

Speaking about his experience, Khalid Rahman commented, “It was effortless for me to tell my story to Mammootty.

Regarding the forthcoming directorial project, Khalid Rahman takes center stage as the main character in the movie titled Alappuzha Gymkhana. Notably, Naslen, known for his role in Premalu, assumes the lead role in this production. This film, a blend of sports comedy and poignant coming-of-age tale, revolves around a group of students who are on a quest to secure a college.

To attain their goal, students opt to learn boxing and utilize the sports quota for college admission. The journey of how they become boxers and the subsequent events make up the entire film. This captivating movie is set to premiere in theaters on April 10, 2025.

In addition to this, the renowned actor Mammootty is poised for a cinematic return this year with the film “Bazooka”. Directed by Deeno Dennis, this gripping game thriller also stars Gautham Vasudev Menon as a co-lead. The movie will premiere on April 10. Moreover, Mammootty is set to appear in other films such as “Kalamkaval” and the yet-to-be-officially-titled “MMMN”.
