Malayalam director Ranjith faces fresh complaint as aspiring male actor accuses him of sexual misconduct

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience in navigating the intricacies of the entertainment industry, I find myself deeply troubled by the recurring allegations of misconduct against Malayalam film director Ranjith. The stories shared by the actors who have bravely come forward are not just accounts of professional indiscretions, but also harrowing tales of emotional and physical violation.

Over the past few days, the Hema Committee Report has sparked a surge of the #MeToo movement within the Malayalam film industry. In this context, a new accusation has been made against director Ranjith. An actor claimed that he was inappropriately touched by Ranjith in 2012, after being tricked into going to a hotel in Bengaluru under the belief it was for an audition.

In response, the person living in Kozhikode added that Ranjith coerced him into undressing, assuring him of acting roles as a reward. As reported by ANI, the alleged victim thought this was just the audition procedure and was given money the following day.

It is pertinent to mention that the complaint was filed with the Director General of Kerala Police. The police stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) would investigate the matter and take action accordingly.

Previously, actress Sreelekha Mitra from Bengal brought allegations against Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith, stating inappropriate conduct during the production of Paleri Manikyam around 2009-10. According to various sources, Mitra asserted that Ranjith’s actions made her feel uneasy and endangered. She claimed that at a gathering for the film team held in a hotel, he invited her to his room under the guise of discussing work matters.

Additionally, she disclosed that Ranjith had made unwelcome physical advances, such as touching her hair and neck, and fiddling with her bracelets. The actress stated, “He messed around with my bracelets, making me feel uneasy but I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt.” In light of these grave allegations, Ranjith vehemently refuted the claims.

For those who may not know, Ranjith is a well-known director in the southern movie industry and previously held the role of chairperson at the state-funded Kerala Film Academy. He stepped down from his position as chairperson of the Kerala Film Academy after Sreelekha Mitra’s allegations of misconduct.
