Malayalam actor Riyaz Khan breaks silence on being dropped from Unni Mukundan’s Marco; ‘As an actor I am sad’

It’s widely recognized that Unni Mukundan’s film “Marco” is this year’s most action-packed, intense flick. However, Malayalam actor Riyaz Khan recently disclosed a surprising detail – his role was removed in the film’s final version.

In an interview with Kan Channel Media, Riyaz Khan admitted that he engaged in a significant physical altercation with Unni Mukundan. Some brief snippets of this confrontation have been previewed on various social media platforms.

In that particular sequence, Riyaz pointed out that both he and Unni Mukundan sported distinct appearances. Notably, it was Unni Mukundan who reached out to Riyaz for that particular scene.

Riyaz Khan stated, “While filming Marco, Unni Mukundan and I had a disagreement on set, which we captured for the movie. The scene has gained quite a lot of attention. When you watch the video, it becomes clear that Unni Mukundan and I share a strong bond. The expression you saw was nothing like what I felt during the filming of Marco. A significant portion of our on-screen personas underwent a remarkable transformation. It wasn’t just a case of wearing black suits; Unni sported a different style, while I adopted a unique appearance for that particular role.

Continuing the conversation, Riyaz Khan shared that after Marco’s release from prison, filmmaker Haneef Adeni confided in him about the scene showing Marco being cut off. Yet, the director clarified that this was not a deliberate choice they made.

As a connoisseur of artistic expression, I must admit, I share the sentiments of the Malayalam actor. Though I acknowledge and respect the choice made by the creative minds behind the project, I cannot help but feel a pang of sadness within me. To see Marco, a film that has resonated so profoundly with audiences, fills me with a sense of melancholy as an artist. The success it has achieved is undeniably impressive; however, from an actor’s perspective, I find myself feeling even more somber about the project’s outcome.

Riyaz remarked, “Being an actor, I feel deeply saddened. It’s even more disappointing to miss out on a blockbuster movie. Despite being part of a global conversation surrounding a film, I find myself in one instead.
