Mahershala Ali Dodges Marvel Question As MCU Phase 5 Ends Without Blade Reboot

In a recent chat, Mahershala Ali, who stars in the reboot of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade, elusively danced around a query about his future Marvel roles. This follows the reboot as the sole Phase 5 MCU project unveiled at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con that hasn’t been released yet. The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to debut on July 25, 2025, marks the beginning of Phase 6 in the MCU.

Blade’s Mahershala Ali says he wants to be left out of Marvel conversations

During an interview with his Jurassic World Rebirth co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, Ali was asked questions about his appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, he avoided answering directly during this segment of Vogue’s Off the Cuff. When Bailey attempted to challenge them by asking if they could list all the MCU films Johansson and Ali had been involved in, Ali humorously deflected by saying, “Please exclude me from that conversation. That’s more for Scarlett.

Afterward, they delved into Scarlett Johansson’s lengthy stint as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Johansson initially debuted in the MCU with Iron Man 2, which was released in 2010. Black Widow, her standalone movie from 2021, marked her swan song in the franchise.

To start with, before Ali evaded the previous question, Bailey mentioned, “There’s one we’re really looking forward to,” which might have been about the Blade reboot. It appeared that Johansson tried to get Ali to discuss his Marvel Cinematic Universe role more, but he once again avoided answering and instead asked Johansson about her first film role. Eventually, Johansson revealed that it was North from 1994, an American comedy-drama adventure movie.

So far, Mahershala Ali hasn’t shown up as Eric Brooks/Blade in any Marvel Cinematic Universe production yet. However, he lent his voice to the character in last year’s Eternals without screen credit. Before that, he portrayed Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in the first season of Luke Cage which was released on Netflix back in 2016.

Last month, at the New York premiere of Jurassic World Rebirth, Ali expressed his readiness to take on the role of Blade.
