The Mafia series has been a staple in my gaming diet since its inception in 2002, and the prospect of delving into the origins of organized crime in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily is nothing short of tantalizing.

2K left fans in awe towards the end of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, unveiling a fresh trailer for the upcoming installment in the cherished action-adventure series, titled “Mafia: The Old Country“.

What happens in the Mafia: The Old Country trailer?

The trailer doesn’t show off much about the game, but does tease being set in Italy. In the trailer, we’re treated to some cryptic dialogue before being shown the setting of 1900s Sicily, where the game will take place.

The Mafia game franchise kicked off back in 2002 when the initial installment was launched, and since then, numerous games have been part of its legacy. In the main sequence of the franchise, the latest release is Mafia III from 2016. However, a remastered version of the original game, called the “Definitive Edition,” hit the shelves in 2020. Additionally, various story add-ons have been introduced across the series.

Every Mafia video game features diverse imaginary settings that mimic real U.S. cities, and usually unfold in historical backdrops. These games often let players engage with the Mafia, either by trying to climb the hierarchy or dismantling the entire criminal organization.
