As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for immersive narratives and a soft spot for the Mafia franchise, the announcement of Mafia: The Old Country has me positively buzzing! Growing up in the shadow of the mob movies’ golden age, I’ve always been captivated by tales of organized crime. The prospect of stepping into the boots of a character in the heart of Sicily during the 1900s is nothing short of exhilarating.
2024’s Gamescom Opening Night Live concluded with one last unveiling – the upcoming installment in the Mafia series titled “Mafia: The Old Country”. This game promises an exploration of the early era of organized crime, and is being developed by 2K Games and Hangar 13. It’s scheduled for release in 2025.
Experience the world of Mafia: The Old Country, which transports you to 1900s Sicily and delves into the origins of being entangled in organized crime. Immerse yourself in an authentic atmosphere as you unravel a fresh narrative that lays the groundwork for the original Mafia series.
According to Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes in a statement, over the first three installments of the Mafia series, players were initially introduced to the Mafia world via intense stories set across various time periods. In Mafia: The Old Country, we’re returning to the core elements that made the franchise popular, by creating a rich, linear narrative reminiscent of classic mob movies, exploring an impressive new location, and offering it all in a compact, well-focused package designed for fans who enjoy immersive experiences.
Currently, there isn’t much to see from Mafia: The Old Country, but 2K has promised to reveal more information in December, likely during The Game Awards. Mafia: The Old Country is expected to be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in the year 2025, before the end of Take-Two Interactive’s fiscal year 2026.
