It’s well-known that Sony Pictures’ film, Madame Web, didn’t perform well, but its lead actress, Dakota Johnson, doesn’t hold herself responsible for the movie’s issues. Instead, she attributes them to other factors.
What did Dakota Johnson say about Madame Web being a flop?
In a chat with the Los Angeles Times, they touched on the Sony and Marvel flick we’ve been associated with. They inquired if I might be hanging up my cape for big-time productions after its less-than-stellar performance. I made it clear that the movie’s underperformance wasn’t a reflection of my work, but rather a consequence of too many changes happening backstage – something that can derail even the best of projects.
Johnson stated, “I wasn’t responsible for the issue. These days, many creative choices are made collectively or by individuals lacking creativity. It’s challenging to produce art or something enjoyable under such circumstances. I believe ‘Madame Web’ initially had a unique direction but evolved into something different, and I was merely an observer during that transformation. Such occurrences are common, especially with larger-budget films, which can sometimes fail.
Regardless of the movie’s shortcomings, Johnson remains unfazed about her role in a larger production, acknowledging she’s previously starred in lesser-known films that didn’t fare any better.
Or, more casually: The flop of the film doesn’t bother Johnson at all because she’s been in similar smaller projects that didn’t do well either. She’s still excited about being part of a bigger project.
First premiered in February 2024, the movie “Madame Web” featured actors such as Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. However, upon its release, it received widespread criticism, and it struggled to recoup its reported budget at the box office, thus marking a financial flop for the production company.
