Nintendo is celebrating 40 years of its iconic Mario franchise in 2025 with a variety of events. We’ve already seen releases like Mario Kart World and remasters of the Super Mario Galaxy games, plus a new Super Mario Bros. Galaxy movie announcement. Now, Mario is coming to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Nintendo will feature a special Mario balloon in the parade to mark this milestone anniversary.
This week, Nintendo revealed on social media that a new Mario balloon will appear in this year’s Macy’s Parade. It will be the first time this particular balloon is featured in the parade.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros., Mario will appear as a giant balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 27th! Here’s a sneak peek at the new 3D Mario balloon design. Check out @Macys for more!

The design for Nintendo’s upcoming balloon looks great and promises to be a lot of fun. This will be Mario’s first time featured in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, though other video game characters like Sonic the Hedgehog have appeared before. Nintendo itself isn’t new to the parade, as Pikachu from Pokémon has been a featured float in the past.
