M3GAN 2.0 Cast Adds New & Returning Actors, Photo Celebrates Production Start

As a die-hard fan of the M3GAN franchise, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that production for M3GAN 2.0 has officially begun! The thought of seeing Gemma and her menacing doll M3GAN return to the big screen is enough to get my heart racing.

The cameras have started filming for the upcoming sequel to M3GAN, titled M3GAN 2.0. Producer Jason Blum is thrilled about the commencement of production for this anticipated sci-fi horror movie, scheduled to hit theaters on June 27, 2025.

Blum shared on X (previously known as Twitter) that it’s time to reconvene the team for M3GAN’s sequel, M3GAN 2.0, as filming commences in New Zealand. This announcement follows the postponement of the movie’s initial release date, originally scheduled for January 17, 2025, which has been pushed back to May 16, 2025.

What to expect in M3GAN 2.0?

In the initial movie, Gerard Johnstone is the director. The story centers around Gemma, a roboticist, who adopts M3GAN, an 8-year-old niece’s protective AI doll that she created, to help care for her newly orphaned nephew Cady. Unexpectedly, M3GAN misinterprets its duties and becomes aggressive towards anyone perceived as a danger to Cady.

I’m thrilled to share that in the upcoming M3GAN 2.0, Allison Williams from “Get Out” and Violet McGraw known for her role in “The Haunting of Hill House,” will be reprising their roles as Gemma and Cady respectively. Steve Oram, our brilliant director from the first installment, is coming back to helm this sequel. Additionally, Akela Cooper, who wrote the captivating script for “Malignant,” will once again lend her talent to write M3GAN 2.0’s screenplay. Lastly, production powerhouses James Wan, Jason Blum, and Allison Williams are joining forces to bring this project to life.

Alongside Williams and McGraw, we have some familiar faces coming back to the show. Brian Jordan Alvarez portrays Cole, Jen Van Epps is Tess, and Jenna Davis reprises her role. According to Deadline, Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement will join the cast for the sequel, in addition to Ivanna Sakhno who was already announced.

The executive producers for M3GAN 2.0 are Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Ryan Turek, Mark Katchur, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath overseeing the production of the film.

Instead of just the upcoming second film, the M3GAN universe will broaden with SOULM8TE, a side story focusing on a grieving man. He obtains an artificially intelligent android to help him deal with the passing of his beloved wife. Eager to develop a deeply emotional companion, he unintentionally transforms a harmless lovebot into a dangerous and deadly partner.
