M3GAN 2.0: Allison Williams Explains How Her Character Has Changed in Blumhouse Sequel

As a fan who has been following Allison Williams‘ career with bated breath, I must say her recent insights into M3GAN 2.0 have me thoroughly intrigued! The first movie was a rollercoaster ride of suspense and terror, and it seems that Gemma’s life will continue to be a tumultuous journey in the sequel.

Allison Williams says the effects of the first M3GAN movie will be weighing on Gemma in M3GAN 2.0.

In January 2022, the film M3GAN made its debut in U.S. cinemas. This Blumhouse production revolving around a doll with homicidal tendencies driven by artificial intelligence featured Allison Williams as Gemma, Violet McGraw as Cady, and Jenna Davis providing the voice for M3GAN.

A sequel, M3GAN 2.0, is now in the works, along with a spin-off that is titled SOULM8TE.

At the recent New York Comic Con BlumFest panel, I shared some exciting updates on how Gemma’s character has evolved from M3GAN 1.0 to her new version in the upcoming sequel.

What did Allison Williams say about M3GAN 2.0?

As the second film begins, it’s evident that Gemma’s experiences from the first movie have had a profound impact on her. Essentially, you can tell that she survived what we witnessed in the first film and has adapted her life as a result.

Williams went on to explain, “In this film series, my role is mainly about portraying things honestly and naturally so the audience can empathize with my story. However, there are other characters who sometimes serve as a window for the audience’s perspective. It’s all about maintaining authenticity, but when we’re dealing with horror, it requires dramatic responses to intense situations, as the risks are always high and everything feels amplified. So, it’s also about pushing your limits, while still keeping my performances grounded. I don’t typically deliver over-the-top performances in these films.

In addition to Williams, the actors McGraw and Davis are set to reprise their roles in M3GAN 2.0, with Gerard Johnstone at the helm as director. The ensemble also includes Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Ivanna Sakhno, Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement.

In U.S. cinemas, M3GAN 2.0 will premiere on June 27, 2025, distributed by Universal Pictures. As for SOULM8TE, it’s scheduled to hit the screens on January 2, 2026.
