As I delve deeper into the captivating world of Love Next Door, I find myself in awe of the complexities and nuances that each character brings to the table. The latest episode was particularly intriguing as it shed light on Bae Seok-Ryu’s harrowing past with Greip.

On Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 9:20 p.m., the fourth episode of the well-known K-drama “Love Next Door” was broadcast on tvN. The show can also be streamed online on Netflix. This drama focuses on the lives of two old friends, Choi Seung-Hyo (played by Jung Hae-In) and Bae Seok-Ryu (portrayed by Jung So-Min). As they navigate through their own personal and professional hurdles in adulthood, they reconnect. As they reminisce about the past, they gradually find themselves falling in love.

In “Love Next Door” Episode 4, I found myself growing even more connected to both Choi Seung-Hyo and Bae Seok-Ryu. In the latest episode of Love Next Door, I found myself reminiscing with Bae Seok-Ryu as we unearthed letters we’d penned to our future selves back in high school and tucked away in a time capsule. As grown-ups, it was quite a journey diving into those memories. While reading Ryu’s letter, I kept mine hidden because I’d poured out my feelings for her within its pages. We also noticed that our friend Jeong Mo-Eum’s (Kim Ji-Eun) letter seemed to have gone missing.

Bae Seok-Ryu helps Choi Seung-Hyo with a project

In their correspondence, the two friends pondered over what they’d written. While Seok-Ryu searched for any clue that might guide her steps ahead, Seung-Hyo attempted to conceal his current emotions towards her. The next day found Seok-Ryu joining Seung-Hyo at his office for a cup of coffee. Little did she know, this casual outing would lead to an intriguing turn of events.

Yoon Myung-Woo, one of Seung-Hyo’s co-founders, shared that Seok-Ryu’s previous employer, Greip, was reaching out to discuss a potential project with them. They were asked by both Seung-Hyo’s company and its rival to submit presentations for the opportunity to construct a new office in Seoul. Since Seok-Ryu had previously worked at Greip, she provided information about the company’s expectations for the project proposal.

1. Instead of asking, Myung-Woo requested that Seok-Ryu assist them in mediating with the company. At first, she hesitated but ultimately decided to aid her friend. In the interim, their parents became acquainted with one another. In a store, Mo-Eum ran into Kang Dan-Ho (Yoon Ji-On), and they connected through sharing similar preferences while also encountering Seok-Ryu and Seung-Hyo. He mentioned that he had previously encountered Seok-Ryu.

Seok-Ryu discovers something fishy about Greip

As we made our way home under the cover of night, Mo-Eum dropped a bombshell – she’d already peeked into the time capsule we’d buried at school on the same fateful evening. My heart pounded as I pondered if Mo-Eum had somehow gleaned my secret feelings for Seok-Ryu from her reading of my letter. Yet, she reassured us that she couldn’t recall much from what she’d read in mine.

The following day, Seok-Ryu assisted Seung-Hyo and Myung-Woo in a conference call with Greip. Despite the call concluding, Seok-Ryu overheard Greip’s team discussing their strategies, causing her concern. She informed Seung-Hyo that Greip intended to collaborate with another company due to Seung-Hyo’s company lacking a solid track record. However, Seung-Hyo stated his intention to follow orders and work diligently in response. This exchange resulted in a disagreement between the two.

In the park, Mo-Eum connected with a youngster and told Seok-Ryu about it later on. On the other hand, observing Myung-Woo’s enthusiasm for the project, Seung-Hyo chose to keep the details to himself at the office.

Bae Seok-Ryu’s past with Greip is revealed

Previously, Bse Seok-Ryu chose not to assist Seung-Hyo further. But the next day, she changed her mind and offered help. Some time passed before they received the Greip team. However, when Seok-Ryu encountered Chris, a new addition to their group as Greip’s Chief Product Designer, it stirred memories of past traumatic encounters with him.

Despite working for Greip, Chris and other colleagues often relied on Seok-Ryu as a tool to complete their leftover tasks. Seok-Ryu assumed they valued her input, but eventually understood that she was being exploited. This realization left her uneasy during the team meeting in Korea. Following the meeting, the Greip team appreciated Seok-Ryu’s proposal, yet Chris insisted on partnering with a competing company instead.

In this situation, Chris confronted Seok-Ryu, who exposed that he knew Chris had overheard their previous conversation at Greip regarding her. After Chris hurled insults at Seok-Ryu, Seung-Hyo intervened by grabbing Chris. However, when Chris insulted Seung-Hyo and his company, the dispute intensified further. Myung-Woo discovered Chris’ plans, and Seok-Ryu suggested resigning if it would aid Seung-Hyo. In response to Chris threatening her, she retaliated against his inappropriate actions.

In the finale, Seung-Hyo and Seok-Ryu found common ground through their shared past at Greip, culminating in them crafting a protective charm for Chris together. Impressed by Seung-Hyo’s dedication and zeal, Seok-Ryu shared how it motivated her to emulate the same spirit. Coincidentally, during this bonding moment, Myung-Woo contacted with news that they had secured the project to construct Greip’s headquarter store in Seoul. Interestingly, Myung-Woo played a part in Chris’ dismissal from the company. Upon receiving this update, Seok-Ryu embraced Seung-Hyo warmly, recalling a similar instance from their past.
