Hello! A long-awaited, previously unreleased Duke Nukem game called “Duke Nukem: D-Day” has been made available online at last. Originally a 2001 spin-off,
Duke Nukem: D-Day prototype leaks online
Back in 2001, I stepped into the world of Duke Nukem: D-Day for the first time on PlayStation 2. While the gang at 3D Realms were still wrestling with the cursed development of Duke Nukem Forever, this spin-off game was their way to keep Duke’s iconic personality alive and kicking!
N-Space, responsible for creating PS1 games like Land of the Babes and Time to Kill, had planned a D-Day spin-off for PS2. Regrettably, this game was ultimately abandoned. The proposed title would’ve sent Duke on an adventure through the past, battling both Nazis and aliens (naturally), during World War 2, with plenty of patriotic ‘Murica cheers along the way.
Currently, a preliminary version of the game has surfaced on the internet, featuring 12 playable levels. Although it’s reportedly 90% finished, it lacks functional cutscenes and minimal voiceovers. Maybe some skilled modifiers could refine this project; that would certainly be impressive!
Despite this game seeming fun, much like other Duke Nukem games by N-Space, it’s unfortunate that Duke Nukem 3D remains the best in the series. However, we continue to hope that the character will return from retirement and deliver a shooter game that deserves applause.
For individuals hesitant about trying the story’s main character, the narrative begins with a usual trip to a strip club, followed by an unexpected journey into World War 2. Once there, it’s all about action and fun, but the war-time bubble gum is quite terrible.
In this action-packed game, you’ll battle swarms of vile Nazis, shooting them down on the shores of Normandy and eventually reaching Antarctica where you’ll destroy an extraterrestrial mothership. It’s just the usual heroic exploits you’d expect!
As a dedicated fan, I’ve learned from a trusted source that development on D-Day continued until 2001, suggesting there might exist a more refined edition of the game somewhere in the ether. Here’s hoping this version boasts improved combat mechanics, captivating cutscenes, and the legendary voice acting of John St. John. Fingers crossed!
