As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher with a soft spot for sitcoms and sports documentaries, I’m thrilled to see some familiar faces and stories making their way onto my Netflix queue this September!
In September, Netflix may not be as bustling with new content compared to other months, but it’s nonetheless bringing a decent variety of cable and network series to its platform!

Lopez vs Lopez Season 2 (September 18)
As the third season approaches this fall, it’s high time for viewers to get acquainted with NBC’s unexpected success. In the series, George Lopez portrays a man who, following his company’s bankruptcy, is forced to live with his daughter, Mayan (sharing the same name as his real-life daughter). However, their relationship has been strained due to George’s past alcohol issues, and their attempts to mend their differences prove challenging for Mayan’s family.
In Season 2, Mayan takes on a new role working for her father, while George endeavors to rectify his past mistakes. The storyline also includes a wedding and blossoming romances. The season finale uncovers family secrets that will surely keep you hooked. This popular NBC sitcom is an enjoyable watch for Netflix binge-watchers alike.
Heels Seasons 1-2 (September 15)
Regrettably, this Starz series doesn’t last long enough, but it’s a essential watch for any professional wrestling enthusiast. Known from Arrow , Stephen Amell plays Jack Spade, the headliner and promoter of a minor wrestling promotion. Alexander Ludwig portrays Ace, his brother and another top performer. The genuine sibling rivalry between them eventually eclipses their wrestling narratives, with Ace aiming to outshine Jack as the more prominent star.
The show is marvelous, capturing the world of pro wrestling with fun action and the family conflict is a huge deal. The second season ramps it up to show how the real drama behind the scenes is putting the wrestling to shame. It’s too bad it only lasted two seasons, but at least it can now be binged on Netflix to show fans what they were missing.
Call the Midwife Season 13
As a dedicated viewer, I’ve found myself captivated by the current season of the beloved British drama. Instead of the usual setting, we’re now in 1969, and one of the nuns is grappling with the uncertainty of her impending fate. Meanwhile, the changing times are causing a ripple effect among the other sisters. A fresh batch of trainees has joined our midwife crew, adding a new layer of drama as they navigate their way through this unique lifestyle. Some intriguing character developments are at play, and events such as the moon landing serve as a compelling backdrop for another year of exceptional storytelling that underscores why this series continues to captivate audiences.
The Hughleys
1998-2002 sitcom, “The Hughleys,” which aired on ABC/UPN and features D.L. Hughley as a character moving his family from inner-city Los Angeles to the suburbs, is often overlooked but offers a unique blend of humor. The show’s comedy stemmed from the family’s experiences in a predominantly white suburb while remembering their roots. With its standard sitcom format and a touch of nostalgic charm, it paved the way for shows like “black-ish” and “The Neighborhood” by exploring cultural clashes. Now streaming on Netflix, this classic comedy has been given new life, allowing viewers to enjoy some timeless laughs with a host of entertaining guest stars.
30 For 30
The popular ESPN documentary series makes available on Netflix a collection of its past movies, providing captivating glimpses into mesmerizing sports narratives. In September, the following titles will be released:
- Catholics vs Convicts: Examining the 1988 Notre Dame-Miami game that changed the course of both teams
- Pony Excess: Spotlighting the SMU Mustangs, whose on-field success was due to illegal moves that made them the only team to earn the NCAA “death penalty.”
- Rand University: A focus on Randy Moss and how his future NFL career was almost wrecked before it started.
- The U Parts 1 & 2: Two films looking at the rise, fall, revival and second fall of the University of Miami football program, whose national championship success was offset by huge scandals.
