Lopez vs. Lopez and more family sitcoms to watch on Netflix in September 2024

As a child of the ’90s and early 2000s, I’ve grown up with the laughter, love, and chaos that family sitcoms have brought to our living rooms. These shows have been an integral part of my life, providing comfort, entertainment, and even some valuable life lessons.

From Modern Family and The Middle, to The Conners and even the classic The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, it’s undeniable that everyone has enjoyed or cherishes a family sitcom. Over the years, family comedies have consistently found their place on television, with their dysfunctional humor being a constant source of entertainment for us all!

If you’re seeking a fun-filled evening with your loved ones or simply craving an escape from reality, Netflix has got you covered! Here are five fantastic family sitcoms currently streaming on the platform. Kick back and relax with “Lopez vs. Lopez” season 2, our first recommendation for a great family viewing experience tonight!

Lopez vs. Lopez

In the NBC sitcom titled “Lopez vs. Lopez“, George Lopez and his real-life daughter Mayan Lopez play estranged father and daughter characters who reconnect after many years. When George decides to live with Mayan, her partner, and their child, it becomes a journey of mending their broken relationship.

In contrast to the first season with 22 episodes, the second season of “Lopez vs. Lopez” – featuring just 10 episodes – debuted on Netflix on September 18th. This gives fans ample time to revisit the series before its third season airs on NBC in October. If you were a fan of George Lopez’s earlier work, you shouldn’t miss his latest sitcom!

The Hughleys

Looking for a blast from the past? Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! One of the funniest, almost-forgotten TV shows has been released – “The Hughleys” – now streaming all four seasons and 89 episodes on Netflix. Perfect timing for millennials to indulge in some nostalgia!

Originally titled “The Hughleys,” the sitcom centers around comedian D.L. Hughley portraying a father who transfers his family from a South Los Angeles community to a predominantly white neighborhood in The Valley. Laughter ensues as the family adapts to their unfamiliar environment. If you used to catch reruns of this show after school, now’s your chance to revisit those golden days!

Reba

Is it possible for any collection of family sitcoms to truly shine without Reba being included? Not at all! Fortunately, this beloved series has found its way onto Netflix this year, offering all six hilarious seasons. It seems as though Reba herself understood that we would need laughter from our comfort shows during these challenging times.

The show “Reba” unfolds in a setting filled with family turmoil, as Reba navigates through numerous challenges, such as her ex-husband and his pregnant wife, whom he cheated on her with, moving in next door, and her teenage daughter announcing her own pregnancy. A devoted single mom who always puts her kids first, watch “Reba” on Netflix, whether it’s your initial viewing or a repeat watch!

The Upshaws

The Netflix original sitcom “The Upshaws” could be one of the streamer’s lesser-known gems. Although its plot may seem familiar compared to other shows out there, the exceptional acting and scriptwriting set it apart as a must-see.

Additionally, boasting a witty sense of humor, The Upshaws delves into genuine aspects of family life that are typically overlooked in some television comedies. As the series comes back next year for part 6 before its finale, be sure to catch up on this underrated family sitcom gem by binge-watching it!

My Wife & Kids

How about one final blast from the past as we hit the highway? The sitcom My Wife & Kids, which aired on ABC from 2001 to 2005, has recently made its way onto Netflix. It’s a fantastic chance for millennials to rediscover another great after-school show. I mean, is there anything better than getting to watch your favorite shows from childhood again?

Damon Wayans and Tisha Campbell featured in “My Wife & Kids” for five seasons and a total of 123 episodes, playing the roles of the Kyle family who humorously navigated an ordinary yet hilarious upper-middle-class life in Stamford, Connecticut. Don’t forget to add the Kyle family to your viewing list for plenty of chuckles!
