Longlegs is Osgood Perkins' Tour de force

As a passionate gamer and movie enthusiast who has followed the hype surrounding “Longlegs” since its initial teaser trailer, I am thrilled to share my opinion on this highly anticipated horror film. The suspenseful build-up leading up to its release had me hooked, and I’m happy to report that it was worth the wait.

Since the initial teaser trailer for “Longlegs” by Neon was unveiled this year, there’s been a lot of buzz on social media platforms. Further previews have since emerged, providing sufficient intrigue about the movie without revealing too many details of its plot.

As the approaching release of “Longlegs” generated excitement, cryptic messages and enigmatic hints related to the film surfaced on Twitter and Instagram, fueling curiosity among audiences. The horror movie became a highly anticipated topic for many in 2024, sparking numerous conversations.

As someone who couldn’t stop raving about “Longlegs” for months on end, I am elated to share that the prolonged anticipation has been more than justified. This film stands out as the most gripping thriller of the year and, in my opinion, the best movie released so far. While some may label it one of the scariest movies ever created, I respectfully disagree, but this is by no means a detraction from its excellence.

Osgood Perkins‘ newest serial killer thriller, “Longlegs,” sets an unsettling tone from the get-go with its masterful direction that leaves viewers feeling uneasy throughout the film. The movie creates a claustrophobic ambiance that’s hard to shake off, drawing you in despite the discomfort it brings. While it may resemble a terrifying dream, you don’t want to miss a moment of it as you’re left eagerly anticipating what comes next. The experience is unsettling, yet captivating.

Perkins effectively increases the sense of fear through skillful cinematography, notably employing wide-angle shots that make insignificant characters seem insignificant against the immense backdrop. The oppressive surroundings close in on each person as they are unwillingly ensnared in the malevolent and intricately tangled web.

As a big fan of the film, I can’t help but rave about the exceptional performances of Alicia Witt, Blair Underwood, and Kiernan Shipka. However, it is Maika Monroe who truly steals the show with her captivating portrayal of Lee Harker. This character is unlike any role she has embodied before, and Monroe handles it with such grace and precision that it’s hard to look away. Her nuanced mannerisms and endearing awkwardness are a testament to Monroe’s raw talent as an actress, making Harker a truly unique and unforgettable character that is all hers.

Previously, Perkins’ works may have been criticized for weak storylines. However, with “Longlegs,” he has brilliantly combined elements of psychological crime thrillers and occult horror, resulting in an exceptionally gripping and masterfully executed production that is drenched in suspense and poised to become a cult classic.

Simply put, Longlegs is Perkins’ tour de force, and the devil is in the details.
