As a seasoned gamer with years of immersion in various virtual worlds, I must admit that my anticipation for new cinematic experiences often pales in comparison to the thrill of leveling up my character or conquering an epic boss battle. However, the first images from Lonely Planet have managed to stir something within me, reminding me of the allure of human connection and the power of a compelling narrative that transcends the boundaries of pixels and avatars.
The first images from Lonely Planet have been released.
The upcoming Netflix film titled “Lonely Planet” features Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth in lead roles. This romantic movie is written and directed by Susannah Grant, and it’s set to debut on Netflix in October.

When will Lonely Planet be released on Netflix?
Lonely Planet will be available to watch on Netflix on October 11, 2024.
“A secluded author seeks inspiration at a renowned literary sanctuary in Morocco to overcome her creative dilemma. There, she encounters a charming youth, and what initially appears as friendship blossoms into a passionate, world-transforming romance.”
In addition to Dern and Hemsworth, the movie features Diana Silvers, Younès Boucif, Adriano Giannini, and Rachida Brakni as its stars.
“I was captivated by the film’s delving into identity and self-worth within relationships, particularly in such an intellectually stimulating environment as the literary world. The relationship between the younger character and the established writer fascinated me because it’s not solely about romance – it’s about finding someone who truly recognizes and comprehends you, which is a universal and relatable human experience.” (Dern expressed this about the movie through Netflix’s Tudum.)
Lonely Planet marks the second time Nora Ephron has directed a feature film since her work on Catch and Release in 2006. Additionally, she collaborated in creating and oversaw Unbelievable, a Netflix series that premiered in 2019, featuring Toni Collette, Merritt Wever, and Kaitlyn Dever.
Furthermore, Grant has co-written films such as Pocahontas from 1995, 28 Days in 2000, Erin Brockovich (which garnered her an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay), In Her Shoes and Charlotte’s Web, both from 2005, The Soloist in 2009, and The 5th Wave in 2016.
In a collaboration, Grant is working on the latest Netflix film with Liza Chasin and Sarah Timberman. The roles of executive producers are being handled by Brendan Ferguson, Corinne Weber, and Margaret Chernin.
