As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that Star Wars Outlaws has managed to breathe new life into an age-old mechanic – lockpicking. This rhythm minigame is not only reminiscent of classic gaming days but also offers a fresh take on the genre.
If Star Wars had an outlaw-themed adventure without the thrill of lockpicking, wouldn’t it lose some of its classic charm? This is a time-honored game feature, and the one Massive Entertainment has crafted is particularly enjoyable.
How to pick locks in Star Wars Outlaws
In Star Wars Outlaws, cracking locks requires mastering a mini-game based on rhythm. You achieve this by employing your data spike on the specific locks. It resembles traditional rhythm games, and the key is to follow visual and audio cues.
Engage with any lock, and you’ll see an image reminiscent of the one shown here. At the heart of rotating and dynamic machinery, there’s a spike of data. On the right side, you’ll find two lights; the yellow light will pulse in a rhythmic pattern, requiring you to press the fire button synchronously with each pulse.
By completing this step, you’ll secure the necessary component, enabling you to proceed to the next task. Each correct attempt triggers a flashing blue light, signaling that part of the mechanism is secured. Additionally, there’s a rhythmic sound cue – a repeating click – to guide you on when to press the button.
It works best for me to concentrate on the yellow light, play it a few times to grasp its rhythm, then synchronize my actions with it. So far, I haven’t encountered a lock that resets if I miss a beat, but we might have to consider that as we progress further in the game.
