Little House On the Prairie Reboot in Development at Netflix

Netflix has announced its plans to revive the beloved 1970s Western drama “Little House on the Prairie,” originally aired on NBC, as a new adaptation. This revival is inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder’s renowned book series of the same title.

The story’s focus will shift to Charles, his wife Caroline, and their daughters Laura and Mary, who embark on a move from Wisconsin to Independence, Kansas. The narrative will also include Osage characters, as the initial season is inspired by the book ‘Little House on the Prairie.’

Who is involved in the Little House On the Prairie reboot?

In a new take on “The Little House on the Prairie,” Rebecca Sonnenshine, a fan of the original book series turned screenwriter and director, will serve as showrunner. Additionally, Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Dana Fox, Susanna Fogel, and Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions will also be executive producers on the project. Notably, the rights to adapt Laura Ingalls Wilder’s novel series were acquired for film and television by Ed Friendly, Trip Friendly’s father, back in 1972.

It’s been a cherished ambition of mine to continue my father’s work and modernize Wilder’s iconic American tales for today’s audience. I aim to create a fusion that appeals to both book enthusiasts and fans of the original TV series. I am overjoyed with our gifted creative team, headed by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who are skillfully breathing new life into these timeless stories centered around family, community, and resilience, reaching out to both old and new admirers.

The initial television series was created by Blanche Hanalis, while Ed Friendly served as the show’s executive producer. It featured Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson, Lindsay Sidney Greenbush, and others in its cast. This long-running drama aired for nine seasons from 1974 to 1983.
