As a dedicated follower of Malayalam cinema who has witnessed the evolution of storytelling and representation, I am thrilled to see the digital release of “Little Hearts” on Amazon Prime Video. Having grown up watching films that often shied away from portraying complex relationships and identities, it’s heartening to see a movie like this that tackles such themes with sensitivity and nuance.
After initially hitting theaters on June 7, 2024, the Malayalam film featuring Shane Nigam and Mahima Nambiar has now become available for streaming on an OTT platform. This romantic comedy was jointly directed by Aby Treesa Paul and Anto Jose Pereira.
The movie “Little Hearts” will start streaming online from August 13, 2024, on Amazon Prime Video. Sandra Thomas, the film’s producer, announced this on Instagram, stating, “Here it is! ‘Little Hearts’ starts streaming tonight on Amazon Prime. Don’t forget to watch and share your feedback. Thanks!”

The film tells the story of Sibi and his father Pushpakandam, affectionately known as “Baby”. They lead a modest life together, earning a living by tending to a cardamom plantation that belongs to a family acquaintance. Romance enters their lives in unexpected ways, bringing along unforeseen turns of events.
From that point on, the remainder of the movie centers around their efforts to resolve the predicament without causing unnecessary pain to anyone. Critics found it appealing, and it proved successful at the box office.
Besides the main characters, the movie boasted a talented group of actors such as Baburaj, Shine Tom Chacko, Jaffer Idukki, Aima Rosmy Sebastian, Ramya Suvi, Renji Panicker, Maala Parvathy, Shammi Thilakan, and others in pivotal roles. The screenplay was penned by Rajesh Pinnadan while Kailas Menon handled the music.

It’s worth noting that this film was prohibited in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries upon its initial release, primarily because it depicted homosexuality within one of its three love narratives. The movie also explores themes related to queer identity and the hardships endured by members of the LGBTQ+ community when striving for social recognition, particularly within Indian society, where their marriages are featured.
Beyond this, the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC) deemed the movie a morally questionable concept with roots in anti-Christian sentiment, and they voiced their disapproval by arguing that it endorses same-sex relationships and extra-marital liaisons.
Moving onto his professional life, Shane Nigam is presently shooting for his first Tamil movie titled Madraskaaran, which is being directed by Vaali Mohan Das. Additionally, he is working on other films such as Aayirathonnam Ravu and Painkili that are in production.
