List of Action Thriller Movies Like Rocking Star Yash’s KGF

As a massive fan of the KGF Universe and Indian action thrillers, I can’t help but be enthralled by the latest developments within this exciting genre. Having grown up watching the evolution of South Indian cinema, it’s fascinating to witness the immense success these films have garnered both locally and globally.

The universe of KGF, created by the team behind it, has gained a huge following in India after the release of its first two parts. The initial film, which came out in 2018 and starred Yash as the protagonist, broke box office records for Kannada films. With the second installment, KGF Chapter 2, hitting theaters in 2022, fans were left on the edge of their seats as it ended with an open-ended conclusion, leaving them excitedly waiting for more.

Lately, it’s been reported that director Prashanth Neel has reached out to Ajith Kumar for a possible partnership within the KGF franchise. This announcement has fueled even greater anticipation for KGF Chapter 3, leaving fans wondering about the role Ajith might play in this upcoming blockbuster.

As a long-time fan of Indian cinema, I’ve seen my fair share of exciting and captivating movies. And let me tell you, the anticipation for KGF Chapter 3 is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. The makers have kept us hooked with frequent updates on the project, and the buzz around it just keeps growing stronger.

Kabali

In 2016, Pa. Ranjith’s action drama Kabali, featuring Rajinikanth in the main role, became the Tamil film with the largest opening. The movie also starred Winston Chao, Radhika Apte, Dhansika, Kishore, and others in significant parts. The plot revolves around Kabaleeswaran (Kabali), who was wrongly imprisoned for 25 years but is released and takes up his position as the leader of the Malaysian gangster organization 00. In pursuit of reuniting with his family, he confronts his adversaries from group 43, leading to intense conflicts.

Based on Indian Express reports, Kabali generated approximately $77.6 million in box office revenue. If you’re keen on watching it, the film is accessible for streaming on Prime Video and Sun Nxt.

Pushpa

The Pushpa series is excitedly looking forward to its upcoming sequel, titled Pushpa 2: The Rule. Featuring Allu Arjun as the main character, the initial part, Pushpa: The Rise, premiered in cinemas in 2021 and enjoyed tremendous success. Sukumar helmed the production and co-produced it under Mythri Movie Makers and Muttamsetty Media. The storyline centers around the illicit trade of red sandalwood from the Seshachalam Hills in Andhra Pradesh. Tensions escalate when law enforcement tries to put a stop to this criminal activity, resulting in intense clashes.

In an exciting turn of events, Allu Arjun portrays Pushpa Raj, Fahadh Faasil essays the role of SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, and Rashmika Mandanna plays Srivalli in this blockbuster film. Released in 2021, it became the highest-grossing Indian production of the year, earning critical acclaim for its compelling narrative and exceptional acting. Following its resounding success, the much-anticipated sequel, titled Pushpa 2: The Rule, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 6, 2024. This continuation picks up where the initial installment conclusively ended. In the meantime, audiences can enjoy watching Pushpa: The Rise on Prime Video.

Salaar

The Salaar series, created by Hombale Films – the same group behind the KGF series, is still holding audiences’ attention on OTT platforms. In late 2023, they introduced the first part of this franchise, titled “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire.” Prashanth Neel helms the director’s chair for this production, while Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran lead the cast. Notable supporting actors include Shruti Haasan, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy, Jagapathi Babu, and Bobby Simha.

In the grim, dystopian city of Khansar, the story unfolds of two longtime friends, Deva and Vardharaja. Due to unexpected circumstances, Deva is compelled to abandon Khansar. Later, he feels drawn back to help his friend seize power in their hometown. The Film Certification Authority classified this movie as “A” for its mature themes. Defying this rating, the film garnered massive popularity. Consequently, the producers are considering a second installment.

Enthusiasts look forward to the second part of Salaar, named Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryanga Parvam, hitting screens around mid-2025. According to producer Vijay Kiragandur, the script has been finalized, indicating that filming is well underway. For those wanting a refresher before watching the new release, the initial edition is available on Netflix and Disney Hotstar in various languages.

Stay tuned for more updates!
