Lisa’s New Manga Comic: A Bold Move to Transform Her Music into Art!

According to Variety, Thai pop sensation Lisa is planning to release a comic book or manga series to accompany her upcoming albums.

2025 has marked a significant solo career leap for Lisa, who’s already renowned as a global pop icon with Blackpink. She’s launched her first single “Born Again” alongside Doja Cat and Raye; made her acting bow in the third installment of “The White Lotus”; and is preparing to drop her debut solo album titled “Alter Ego” on February 28th.

Joining the roster, the renowned Thai celebrity is venturing into the world of comic books by introducing “ALTER-EGO: THE OFFICIAL COMIC,” a complement to her forthcoming album. This venture marks the beginning of Lalisa Comics in association with Zero Zero Entertainment.

The 56-page project draws inspiration from the themes of her “Alter Ego” album, introducing five distinct characters – Roxi, Kiki, Vixi, Sunni, and Speedi – each representing a unique facet of the 27-year-old’s character. As detailed in an announcement, “ALTER-EGO: THE OFFICIAL COMIC” narrates a tale that embodies transformation, bravery, and unity.

Frankel notes that Lisa’s “alternate personality” narrative offers a fresh take on the conventional musician-comedian mold, as he has experienced during his time in the entertainment industry.

He explains that the Zero Zero process is centered around partnering with artists to design exclusive merchandise with a strong narrative focus. In the realm of comics, they work hand-in-hand with the artist and their team to construct the story, converting it into an art script which serves as a visual guide. After the artwork is finished, a writer enters the scene to fine-tune the story by adding dialogue, making sure the end result aligns with the artist’s vision. In contrast, ‘ALTER EGO’ required a unique approach because the story was previously integrated into the album. Our role was to expand and enhance that narrative, transforming it into an engaging 56-page comic. Instead of starting from scratch, our focus was on amplifying existing themes and converting them into a complete visual experience.

If a story is central to this project, it’s an advantage. It’s worth noting that there are other projects out there that aren’t based on genuine quality but rather exploit the fame of celebrities as a gimmick. This approach doesn’t foster creativity or authentic art – it’s not the right way to make entertainment and art.

The UK Mirror tells that:

In Lisa’s album, a Thai singer uses five distinct personas, each with their unique descriptions and appearances. Ranging from the ‘Y2K Cute’ Kiki to the rock-infused Speedi, these characters have been well-established. Yet, one character, Vixi, who symbolizes her ‘villain phase’, has recently drawn laughter from fans.

The character of Vixi, intended to appear as cool and rebellious, instead gave off a negative vibe on social media.

It appears that overall sentiment is shifting in response to the announcement of her upcoming comic. Created by artist MinoMiyabi, who has collaborated with musicians such as Gorillaz and Yungblud in the past, this comic book is intended to provide readers a more profound understanding of the personas that Lisa will be using in her new album’s songs.

As a movie enthusiast, I must admit there’s one point I find myself at odds – the singer seems to overemphasize villainy in their performance. Other than that, I genuinely hope they succeed in promoting this upcoming graphic novel (or if it hails from Korea, manhwa) alongside their pop tunes.
