As a gamer who has followed Lindsey Morgan‘s career from The 100 to Walker, I can say it was a rollercoaster of emotions when she decided to leave the latter show. Her character Micki Ramirez was a breath of fresh air, and her chemistry with Jared Padalecki’s Cordell Walker was one for the books.
Lindsey Morgan, who portrayed the quick-witted Texas Ranger Micki Ramirez for almost two seasons on the now-ended CW show “Walker,” shared insights about why she had to depart the series at a time when her character was gaining momentum and she had achieved her aim of being the main lead. Leaving behind her cherished role wasn’t an easy choice, as Morgan had worked tirelessly to reach that point.
Previously known as Micki, Morgan gained fame for her role in another popular CW series, “The 100,” where she played Raven Reyes – one of my favorite characters. In Raven, I found a reflection of myself, embodied with the same grit to surmount obstacles despite a daily-life affecting disability and a biting wit.
In the show “Walker”, Micki served as another trailblazing character, being one of the rare female Texas Rangers. The dynamic between her and Cordell Walker, played by Jared Padalecki, was extraordinary, characterized by a profound and heartfelt friendship that wasn’t romantic in nature. This unique bond not only added depth to their individual characters but also intensified the allure of the Western drama.
It was incredibly sad for Morgan to have to depart from Walker, as fans adored Micki and her storyline. The absence of Walker felt palpable without her, and the circumstances surrounding her departure during season 2 were equally distressing.
Lindsey Morgan addresses why she left Walker
In the most recent episode of Tommy DiDario’s “I Never Said This Before” podcast, Morgan shared insights about her sudden departure from the show ‘Walker’ and discussed the emotional impact it had on her.
I ended up finding out I had a spinal injury which was affecting my nervous system and like my brainstem.
Morgan plays a crucial role in maintaining her wellness due to her active lifestyle and balanced diet. When she received her severe injury diagnosis, it came as a shock and caused significant distress. Unbeknownst to her, she had been suffering from this injury, but she continued to work through various health alterations.
As she recalled her journey, Morgan realized her errors and why she wasn’t healing.
Looking back, I realized my mistake in the sense that, like an athlete, I was working, working, working, [and] outputting, outputting, outputting, outputting, but I wasn’t recovering. All my dreams were coming true, and I was a mess. Me, personally, was not in a good place. My anxiety was through the roof. I feel like I did not do good work. And looking back on it now, it was because I was so stressed out in my body — mentally and physically. I was a mess. I couldn’t figure out why. I have all of this responsibility on my shoulders, and I felt like I was failing everyone — and myself.
Morgan faced a challenging decision presented by two medical recommendations: One option involved long-term medication that might alleviate her symptoms but potentially come with side effects and addiction risks. The second option suggested significant lifestyle changes without the pressure of overworking, as Morgan had been doing so for nearly a decade without a break, which could mean no more working sixteen hours or more per day.
Despite feeling like she had disappointed her dreams, Padalecki, and the Walker team, she prioritized her well-being above all else.
I felt like I failed, and that was hard for me because I, like I said, I’m somebody that really
pushes themself and has really high standards, and I never want to let anyone around me down, you know what I mean. So like, I felt a little bit like I let Jared down or let the show down, and that was the hardest part for me because it still makes me emotional, which I know is silly because I was doing what I needed to do to take care of myself and that’s more important.
Leaving something cherished that you’ve invested time and effort in isn’t an easy task, but Morgan found herself in a situation where putting her own interests first was necessary. Despite her brief stint on the show Walker, Morgan left an indelible mark by injecting her unique blend of sass and humor into the character Micki, which resonated positively with viewers.
It was unfortunate that Morgan left us, but on a positive note, we were able to enjoy her skills once more and recall the vibrant energy she infused into Walker.
