Lin-Manuel Miranda Open to the Idea of a Hamilton Movie: ‘Holla At Me’

As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless digital worlds, I can confidently say that Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s approach to the Hamilton movie is reminiscent of a wise veteran strategist in an epic RPG. He’s not rushing headlong into battle, but instead, he’s patiently seeking out the perfect director and idea, much like a seasoned adventurer scouring the realm for the legendary artifact that will tip the scales in his favor.

Lin-Manuel Miranda expresses that he’s eager to create a Hamilton film, but is holding off until he finds the perfect director and concept that resonates with him initially.

In an interview with Variety this month, Miranda expressed his willingness to transform his hit Broadway play into a film, much like the projects such as Wicked, In The Heights, and others. Yet, he’s not in a hurry to make that happen.

What did Lin-Manuel Miranda say about a Hamilton movie?

Miranda expressed that he’s been open to the idea, especially if a director presents a compelling vision. He added that they already have a fantastic stage production [which was released on Disney+ in 2020]. He’s content with its existence and the opportunity to share it globally. However, if someone comes up with an intriguing concept, feel free to reach out to him.

Back in 2015, I was completely captivated by “Hamilton,” a musical that chronicles the life story of Alexander Hamilton, a key figure in the formation of the United States. This production took the world by storm upon its release, garnering 11 Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and inspiring numerous productions. It’s safe to say that “Hamilton” became a cultural sensation!

Miranda took center stage in the show’s performance, and several of his fellow actors saw a rise to fame following their involvement in the play. Among them were Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Daveed Diggs, Anthony Ramos, and others who also gained prominence.

2020 saw the debut of a filmed adaptation of the Broadway production on Disney+. Lin-Manuel Miranda has previously dabbled in film adaptations, as Warner Bros. Discovery released a cinematic version of his successful 2005 musical “In the Heights” in 2021.
