The live-action Lilo & Stitch trailer is proving to be divisive among fans of the original movie.
This week saw the debut of the full-length trailer for the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch. Dean Fleischer Camp is in charge of directing this remake, which will hit theaters next May. Maia Kealoha plays Lilo, Sydney Elizabeth Agudong portrays Nani, and Chris Sanders lends his voice to Stitch in the film.

Why are fans angry at the live-action Lilo & Stitch trailer?
In the original Lilo & Stitch animated film, extraterrestrial characters Agent Pleakley and Dr. Jumba Jookiba are dispatched to Earth in pursuit of the escaped alien, Stitch. Instead of disguising their alien origins effectively, Jumba dons haphazard human attire, suggesting he hastily grabbed whatever clothes were available. Meanwhile, Pleakley frequently dresses in feminine clothing, including extravagant gowns and outfits.
In the latest film, Zach Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen take on the roles of Jumba and Pleakley. Although these characters are only glimpsed briefly in the trailer, it appears that instead of donning human attire to hide their true forms, they possess the extraordinary ability to transform themselves completely into humans.
The change has left many fans of the original animated movie angry. View some reactions below:

Pleakley having a human form and not crossdressing is a sign of rising fascism btw

Changing Pleakley’s alien form into human clothing instead of erasing it might seem like an attempt to accommodate transphobic views, which is problematic. However, this alteration also undermines the humor since the original poor fit and awkwardness of their disguises are a significant part of the jokes! It appears that budget constraints may be at play here, but maintaining the original comedic intent should not be overlooked.

It seems you won’t get to witness the original Dragon Queen, Pleakley, consistently slaying fashion looks! Even RuPaul was surprised by this news!

It’s foolishly unfunny to make Jumba and Pleakley don human-like digital skins, as if it weren’t already obvious from their low-budget disguises that they are clearly extraterrestrial beings.

Right now, you can stream the initial Lilo & Stitch movie on Disney+. After that film, there were three continuations – Stitch! The Movie from 2003, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch in 2005, and Leroy & Stitch in 2006. Additionally, a television series was also produced.
In a fresh take on this upcoming production, Kaipo Dudoit portrays David Kawena, Tia Carrere takes on the role of Mrs. Kekoa, Courney B. Vance becomes Cobra Bubbles, and Hannah Waddingham lends her voice to the Grand Councilwoman. Set to hit U.S. theaters on May 23, 2025, this film is brought to you by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
