Liev Schreiber Talks About Daughter Kai Coming Out as Trans

Renowned Tony Award-winning performer Liev Schreiber openly talked about his experience parenting his transgender child, Kai. He reminisced about a pivotal point in their family’s journey. Sharing Kai with ex-spouse Naomi Watts, he stated that the most deeply impactful moment in their parental journey was when their daughter requested to be referred by different pronouns.

What did Liev Schreiber say about daughter Kai?

In a candid conversation with Variety, Liev Schreiber, the star of The French Dispatch, shared insights about his daughter Kai who identifies as trans. The 57-year-old actor expresses that Kai has always been true to herself, saying, “Kai was who Kai has always been.” He further mentioned a significant moment in their lives when Kai asked them to use her preferred pronouns.

For Schreiber, the transition seemed quite effortless to him. He admitted, “In truth, it didn’t seem like a significant change for me as Kai had been so gracefully feminine for such a long time.” Schreiber’s daughter Kai will accompany her father and Taylor Neisen, the actor’s current spouse, at the Ali Forney Center’s A Place at the Table Gala in New York City on May 9.

At this special event, we celebrate the Ali Forney Center’s efforts in aiding LGBTQ youth communities who are facing homelessness. Specifically, this organization focuses on providing support for queer individuals who lack a permanent residence. According to Variety, they help more than 2,200 young people find temporary and long-term housing solutions every year.

Additionally, Kai, the child of Schreiber and Watts, has embarked on a career in the entertainment world as a model. She took her first steps down the runway in March, strutting for the high-end fashion label Valentino.

Schreiber emphasized the significance of including individuals similar to Kai within a community, stating, “Kai is truly a warrior. It’s crucial for her to say, ‘I am trans,’ and ‘Behold, this is who I am.’

Kai’s parents, Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts, parted ways after more than a decade together in 2016. They announced that the most beneficial decision for their family was to end their romantic relationship. The two, who have sons Alexander “Sasha” Pete Schreiber and Kai Schreiber, shared this statement: “The best course of action for us as a family is to split up as a couple” (as reported by PEOPLE).

In July 2023, Schreiber wed ex-beauty pageant winner Taylor Neisen. Interestingly, a month prior to this wedding, Schreiber’s previous spouse, Watts, tied the knot with Billy Crudup at a New York City courthouse. The following year, they commemorated their marriage with a grand celebration in Mexico (as reported by PEOPLE).
