Lex Luthor’s DCU Role Expected to Expand Following Superman Movie

Superman likely won’t be the last time that DCU audiences see Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor.

As a gamer, I can hardly contain my excitement! In just under a month, James Gunn’s latest masterpiece, Superman, will grace our movie screens. This DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures production promises to be a spectacle with Hoult playing the cunning Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as the tenacious Lois Lane, and David Corenswet stepping into the iconic role of the Man of Steel himself!

Initially, Creature Commandos marked the initial venture within Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe (DCU). However, it’s Superman who will debut as the first movie in this universe. Following Superman, the DCU is expected to grow further with Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, Lanterns, and additional projects.

What did Peter Safran say about Lex Luthor and Superman?

Through conversations with Omelet, as reported by ComicBookMovie, Safran suggested that Lex Luthor is likely to maintain a significant presence within the DC Universe even beyond Superman’s storyline.

As a dedicated gamer immersed in the DC Universe, I can’t deny that Lex Luthor holds a significant role for me – it’s not only about the Superman movies, but his presence enriches the entire universe.

Safran refrained from providing additional information beyond what he initially shared and is said to have remained silent when asked for further details. Nevertheless, he did express his thoughts on how Nick Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor compared to Gene Hackman’s: “To be honest, I admire Gene Hackman, but his interpretation was quite exaggerated. On the other hand, Nick Hoult breathed life into Lex Luthor as his own character. It’s a remarkable, remarkable performance – one that is realistic, intelligent, and articulate.

After his encounter with Superman, there are numerous potential projects where Lex Luthor might make an appearance, as Gunn has hinted at creating a sequel that promises to catch audiences off-guard. Additionally, it’s plausible they could position him as the adversary in a future DC Universe group film, whether it’s a Justice League movie or another production.

On July 11, 2025, Superman makes his appearance in U.S. cinemas and IMAX screens. This debut is the opening act of the DC Universe’s inaugural chapter, known as “Gods and Monsters.
