MCU Studios’ lead illustrator John Staub posted concept art of Pullman’s Void from Thunderbolts on Instagram, noting: “Exploring various designs for The void, destined for the movie #thunderbolts or #newavengers. In certain recently obtained photographs, the Void appears as the focal point, surrounded by a spinning, ominous mix of red and grey that resembles an eye. One depiction features the Void adorned with radiant red energy trails across his torso.

In both Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Sentry/The Void is one of the most potent beings ever conceived. Initially in the Thunderbolts, Bob experiences amnesia before discovering his true identity. During a movie scene, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine declares that the Sentry is stronger than all the Avengers combined if they were merged into one entity. As the Void, Bob seems shrouded in shadows and nearly indestructible. One of his abilities involves transforming individuals into shadows after sending them to a horrific dimension he himself created.

Speaking about his role, Pullman shared with Marvel.com in May 2025 that “it seemed similar to the character from Memento.” Later, he mentioned that he had to understand the psychological and physical traits of each aspect of the character to accurately depict them on screen.

Previously, Staub has contributed to various Marvel Cinematic Universe productions, including Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film set for 2024.
