As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve come across exciting news about an upcoming production – a lesbian sci-fi animated series hailing from down under, Australia, set to make its grand debut at the Berlin Film Festival. This groundbreaking show carries a unique narrative, subtly challenging traditional gender and racial norms with an anti-male/white slant in its storyline.
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve secured global distribution rights (with the exception of Australia and New Zealand) for the highly anticipated animated feature, “Lesbian Space Princess,” before its grand debut in the Panorama section at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival next month.
In this innovative production by Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese, a sheltered space princess embarks on an intergalactic journey with the objective of freeing her former girlfriend, a bounty hunter, from the clutches of the Straight White Maliens. This captivating film seamlessly combines elements of science fiction and humor while highlighting queer women of color as central figures in its storyline.
It’s likely they’ll argue it’s a satirical jab, but such misogynistic and racially biased content should not be taken lightly. It’s offensive, and if roles were reversed (a male hero saving his partner from women of various backgrounds), it would be equally disturbing, perhaps even more so. When the implications are this clear, there’s a serious problem at hand.
Regrettably, it’s disheartening that animation has sometimes been utilized as a platform for promoting identity politics, rather than its original purpose. However, it seems that an issue which might have been long-standing is not only persisting, but worsening in today’s context.
