The adaptation of “Devil in the White City” by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese is set to hit theaters via 20th Century Studios. This project has been underway since 2019, initially planned as a TV series for Hulu, but due to Hulu’s departure in 2023, it was revamped into a movie. Currently, DiCaprio and Scorsese are discussing roles as the lead actor and director respectively, while also producing the film.
20th Century Studios to release Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese’s next movie, Devil in the White City
20th Century Studios plans to debut the upcoming film collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese, titled “The Devil In The White City,” in cinemas. According to Deadline’s sources, DiCaprio will take on the leading role, while Scorsese will be responsible for directing the project. Previously, they were involved only as producers for this adaptation.
The film is going to be based on Erik Larson’s book ‘The Devil in the White City’, which combines historical facts with a novel-like storytelling. Set in the late 1800s, it focuses on two characters – Daniel Burnham and H.H. Holmes. Daniel Burnham was a famous architect who oversaw the construction of the Chicago World’s Fair, also known as The White City. On the other hand, H.H. Holmes was a fraudster and murderer, who carried out many of his criminal acts during this same fair.
Based on reports from Deadline, it appears that the script for this movie is currently not available. Initially, in February 2019, it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese would produce a TV series adaptation of The Devil in the White City for Hulu. However, over the years, the project encountered various challenges. In 2022, Keanu Reeves and Todd Field departed from the show. Jeremy Allen White, Jude Law, Matt Ross were reportedly being considered for roles in the series. But Hulu eventually decided to part ways with the project. Recently, producer Stacey Sher disclosed that she was still involved in its development. Now, it seems that the project has moved to another company owned by Disney as a full-length feature film instead.
