Ledger, a company that creates hardware wallets for cryptocurrencies, has formed a strategic alliance with Uniswap Labs. As part of this collaboration, they’ve revealed the incorporation of the Uniswap Trading API within Ledger Live. In simpler terms, this means that users of Ledger Live will now be able to utilize Uniswap’s trading features directly from their Ledger wallet interface.
This action is designed to make it effortless for users to carry out token swaps directly from self-custody. As a result, users can exchange tokens using the Uniswap Protocol without having to switch interfaces from Ledger Live.
These users can still fully control their digital assets through Ledger’s hardware wallets.
Understanding Ledger and Uniswap Lab Deal
The team based in the U.S., known for creating some widely utilized blockchain frameworks and applications, is behind the Uniswap Trading API. As mentioned by Mary-Catherine Lader, COO of Uniswap Labs during a recent announcement, this action is intended to facilitate value extraction via a universal trading platform.
The fundamental aspect of our partnership with Ledger lies in enhancing the ease of self-custody for users. As Lader points out, this step is pivotal to make the innovative capabilities of both teams accessible to a wider audience. By implementing straightforward signing, complemented by swapping via Ledger Live utilizing the Uniswap Trading API, users can execute transactions in a secure environment.
Specifically, users could feel assured about signing transactions using their Ledger device since the information became easier to understand by people. In fact, Ledger’s Chief Experience Officer (CXO), Ian Rogers, recognized the progress made by the wallet manufacturer.
He stated that it symbolizes a shift from “a spot where you merely store things, to an integrated platform for safely managing your entire digital lifestyle.
Now, you can generate returns, safeguard your logins, purchase, transfer, and exchange your digital assets using Uniswap, all through Ledger Live. Ledger is thrilled to partner with Uniswap, the leading decentralized application globally, to offer an exceptional user experience, vast token selection, and liquidity to every Ledger Live user,” Rogers stated.
Ledger Looks Out For Users’ Safety
It’s important to mention that the new development occurred a month following an incident where Ledger Wallet crypto users fell victim to a phishing scam. The cybercriminals involved sent out fraudulent emails, disguised as official communications, to trick Ledger users. They spread false information about a data breach in order to gain access to users’ recovery phrases.
According to accounts of the event, the phishing attempts led victims to a seemingly genuine Ledger-themed website. This site was actually operated by the hackers through Amazon Web Services. Once they had entered this site, users were further redirected to a bogus domain, ‘ledger-recovery[.]info’, which had been registered on December 15, 2024.
On this site, which resembles Ledger’s authentic platform, you’re invited to complete a “safety verification” by providing your wallet recovery key phrases.
At about the same time, Ledger signed an agreement with Coinbase that mirrored its previous deal with Uniswap Labs. Approximately a year ago, Coinbase Pay became compatible with the Ledger Live app, enabling wallet users to receive digital assets bought from Coinbase without any extra charges directly into their wallets.
The two entities each rolled out this function to ensure users could enjoy a smooth, secure, and hassle-free interaction.
At a point, users found themselves navigating through a complex procedure, which frequently led to mistakes. Rogers emphasized that the integration will play a significant role in simplifying cryptocurrency transactions for Ledger users. Notably, they suggested that this improvement would not jeopardize the security of their assets.
