The much-awaited DC Studios’ series, titled Lanterns, has recently disclosed some fresh details about one of its principal figures, Hal Jordan. At present, filming is actively in progress with a projected release date set for 2026 on HBO.
The storyline presents John Stewart, a fresh recruit, and Hal Jordan, a legendary Green Lantern, who are both space enforcers. They become entangled in a mysterious case on Earth when they investigate a murder that occurred in the Midwest of America.
What are the new Lanterns plot details?
It’s said that lanterns (likely referring to the Green Lantern Corps) will delve into Hal Jordan’s past, using flashbacks, to depict his childhood experiences. At present, they are still looking for actors to play Martin and Jessica Jordan, Hal’s parents, as well as a young Hal himself. The series is also expected to portray Martin’s death and its impact on a younger Hal.
Here’s how I might rephrase that in the first person as a fan:
“Check out these character profiles for Hal’s family, including his parents and younger self, as shared by Nexus Point News:
- Martin Jordan — Handsome, confident, charming, but hides a deep sadness. Similar to the comics, he’s a pilot and hero to young Hal, who he has a very close relationship to.
- Jessica Jordan — Jessica is emotionless after the death of her husband, and is being cast for a funeral scene.
- Kid Hal — Defiant, spirited, brave, and a rule breaker who follows in his father’s footsteps.
In this show on HBO, we have Aaron Pierre portraying John Stewart and Kyle Chandler taking on the role of Hal Jordan. Additionally, Kelly MacDonald is Kerry, Garret Dillahunt is William Macon, Poorna Jagannathan plays Zoe, Ulrich Thomsen is Sinestro, Chris Coy is Waylon Sanders, Jasmine Cephas Jones is young Bernadette, Sherman Augustus represents both John Sr. and a younger version of him (John Sr.), J. Alphonse Nicholson plays a young John Sr., Jason Ritter is Billy Macon, Nathan Fillion will be seen as Guy Gardner, Nicole Ari Parker will portray Bernadette, and Sherman Augustus also appears as John Sr. Notably, before making an appearance in this HBO series, Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern character will first be seen in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film.
The television show “Lanterns” is overseen by executive producer Chris Mundy (of True Detective: Night Country and Ozark fame), along with Damon Lindelof and Tom King. Notably, Lindelof and King are not only involved in the production but also collaborate on writing the series. The team of directors for this show includes James Hawes, Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov.
