Upcoming DCU series titled “Lanterns” will feature Kyle Chandler portraying Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. This show is jointly penned by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindeloff, and Tom King.
Per Variety, Macdonald has now joined the cast of Lanterns.
Who is Kelly Macdonald playing in the DCU Lanterns series?
McDonald has been cast as a series regular in Lanterns, taking on the role of Sheriff Kerry. This character is portrayed as a practical woman with a strong family bond and a deep connection to her tight-knit town. Her unyielding spirit, tempered by a challenging past that has only strengthened her determination, serves as her foundation when the town’s hidden truths start to emerge.
In 2007, McDonald received a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role due to her performance in No Country for Old Men. She clinched the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in The Girl in the Cafe in 2005, and she was also nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of Margaret Thompson in Boardwalk Empire.
Beyond being recognized for her role as Princess Merida in Pixar’s Brave, she is also well-known for her extensive film career that spans from the 1996 release of Trainspotting to recent projects like Anna Karenina (2012) and T2 Trainspotting (2017), with other notable credits including Elizabeth (1998), Gosford Park (2001), Finding Neverland (2004), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 (2011).
The story revolves around “John Stewart, a newcomer, and Hal Jordan, a legendary space enforcer” who are pulled into a shadowy case on Earth, as they delve into a murder investigation set in the Midwest of America, according to the plot summary.
This show is a collaborative effort between HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Studios, set to air eight episodes. Initially, the first two episodes will be helmed by director James Hawes. Notably, James Hawes, Mundy, Lindelof, and King are all involved as executive producers for this production.
A premiere date for Lanterns has not yet been announced.
