Lanterns Cast Adds Bass Reeves Actor to HBO DC Series

The hit show “Lanterns” on HBO has just announced a fresh addition to its cast for the forthcoming DC series. This upcoming production will feature Aaron Pierre, best known from “Krypton,” as John Stewart and Emmy-winning Kyle Chandler, famously recognized from “Friday Night Lights,” as Hal Jordan. The series is slated to premiere in 2026.

The storyline revolves around John Stewart, a fresh recruit, and Hal Jordan, a renowned space cop, who find themselves entangled in a sinister, homegrown case when they delve into an unexplained murder that took place in the heart of America.

Who is joining the Lanterns cast?

Actor Chris Coy has been selected for the part of Waylon Sanders, a character portrayed as an astute survivor or a jittery truck driver, whose age and true identity remain undisclosed; he’s not subject to the constraints of natural laws. Joining the already confirmed cast members are Kelly MacDonald (Kerry), Garret Dillahunt (William Macon), Poorna Jagannathan (Zoe), Ulrich Thomsen (Sinestro), Jasmine Cephas Jones (young Bernadette), Sherman Augustus (John Sr.), J. Alphonse Nicholson (a young John Sr.), Jason Ritter (Billy Macon), and Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner). Notably, Fillion’s character, Guy Gardner, will debut in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film.

Lanterns is overseen by executive producer Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country, Ozark), along with Damon Lindelof and Tom King who are not only involved as executive producers but also contribute to the series’ writing. Lindelof and King co-write Lanterns. The directors for this show include James Hawes, Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov. HBO officially greenlit the series in June 2024, nearly a year and a half after it was initially announced back in January 2023 as an 8-episode project.
