Lanterns: Aaron Pierre Has Been Cast as the DCU’s John Stewart

As a fan with an appreciation for diverse and talented actors, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Aaron Pierre being cast as John Stewart in the upcoming DCU series, Lanterns! This man has shown his versatility across various genres, from Syfy’s Krypton to Barry Jenkins’ The Underground Railroad, and even voicing Mufasa in Mufasa: The Lion King.


It’s official: Aaron Pierre will be the DCU’s John Stewart.

The forthcoming DCU series, titled “Lanterns,” is set to focus on characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they delve into a puzzling murder mystery. Kyle Chandler has been selected to portray Hal Jordan, while it’s rumored that Pierre and Stephan James are being strongly considered for the role of John Stewart.

Warner Bros. Discovery has now officially announced that John Stewart will be played by Pierre.

What other movies and shows has Aaron Pierre been in up until now?

Previously, Pierre was the actor who portrayed Dev-Em on Syfy’s Krypton TV series. He also appeared as a main character in Barry Jenkins’ The Underground Railroad for Amazon Prime Video and took on the role of Malcolm X in Genius: MLK/X. In the upcoming fourth season of The Morning Show, Pierre will bring Miles to life on screen.

Regarding his film career, Pierre portrayed the character Mid-Sized Sedan in M. Night Shyamalan’s movie Old. Subsequently, he appeared in Brother (2022) and Foe (2023). More recently, he took on the role of Terry Richmond in Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge, a film now available for streaming on Netflix. Additionally, Pierre will be providing the voice for Mufasa in Mufasa: The Lion King, which hits U.S. theaters this December.

The narrative focuses on John Stewart and Hal Jordan, two space-patrolling officers, who become entangled in a sinister, homegrown case when they are tasked with solving a murder that occurred in small-town America. This is a brief overview of the plot for ‘Lanterns’.

The TV series “Lanterns” is jointly penned by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. In addition, the first two episodes of this series are being orchestrated by James Hawes. All four – Mundy, Lindelof, King, and Hawes – hold positions as executive producers for this production.

A premiere date for Lanterns has not yet been announced.

Beginning this December, James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe officially commences with the debut of Creature Commandos. Subsequently, Gunn’s Superman film featuring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel is slated for release in July 2025.
