Today, on Valentine’s Day, the film starring Vishwak Sen titled Laila made its way to the big screens. Directed by Ram Narayan, this production has been met with a range of reactions since its grand premiere in theaters. As audiences continue to flock to cinemas, unfortunately, it seems that the movie has also found its way onto the internet.
Indeed, you’ve got it correct! Laila suffered piracy attacks mere hours post-release and can currently be found streaming on illicit platforms in high definition. The Tollywood industry has been grappling with this problem for quite a while now. For those who are not aware, the recent release of Laila starring Vishwak Sen is just one of many films that have been illegally uploaded online as of late.
Prior to Laila’s release, a number of films such as Game Changer, Pushpa 2, Thandel, Sankranthiki Vasthunam, Kalki 2898 AD, Ponman, and others became available illegally online on their premiere day. Some movies were able to withstand the impact of piracy, but others suffered losses at the box office due to this issue.
Lately, a number of well-known figures within the Tamil cinema world have spoken up about this issue. Following a screening of Thandel on a public bus operated by Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, the movie’s producer, Bunny Vas, voiced his displeasure via his Twitter account.
Once more, someone played the pirated version of our film ‘#Thandel’ on an APSRTC bus (registration number: AP 39 WB. 5566). Piracy negatively impacts the movie industry and disregards the effort put into creating content. Mr. Konakalla Narayana Rao, as the APSRTC Chairman, please issue a strict directive to prevent the display of pirated movie clips in all buses throughout the state.
Take a look at his post below:
Contrarily, Allu Aravind, father of Allu Arjun, addressed the resurging problem of piracy despite numerous attempts to control it. Speaking at a press conference, as reported by India Today, he stated, “Piracy appeared to diminish due to our efforts and the emergence of OTT platforms, but it’s making a comeback. We aim to put an end to it before it causes further harm. It seems people have overlooked the fact that uploading and downloading such prints is illegal.
With Laila leaked online, it remains to be seen how the film performs at the box office.
