As per the latest updates from Mathrubhumi, it appears that the Kerala Film Chamber is aiming their new regulations at the film Empuraan. The Chamber has recently introduced a new rule where films due for release after March 25 must receive its approval before any contracts are signed. Additionally, as reported by TOI, the Film Chamber is planning a symbolic protest on March 27, which aligns with the film’s premiere. Reports indicate that the Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK) has backed the Chamber, deeming the action a “legitimate request.

The symbolic work stoppage and actions taken by the Film Chamber are happening during a persistent discussion in the Malayalam film industry. This conversation was ignited by the Kerala Film Producers’ Association’s request for a complete industry halt starting June 1, in protest against the high salary requests of actors and asking for an exemption from entertainment tax.

To add fuel to the fire, they’ve even reached out to the Film Chamber for backing, intensifying the ongoing debate.

Critics of the strike and closure propose that these actions could endanger the jobs of thousands in the film industry. Additionally, a strike on March 27 might lead to substantial financial losses for Empuraan’s producers. Social media users responding to the news have noted that movies starring Mohanlal have frequently been launched on protest days and yet continue to be enthusiastically received by audiences.
