L2: Empuraan – Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer caught in actors’ and producers’ association debate?

Without a shadow of a doubt, it’s clear that the movie L2: Empuraan featuring Mohanlal is one of the most eagerly awaited Malayalam films at present. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, this film serves as the sequel to the Lucifer series and will be released in cinemas on March 27.

As per the latest updates from Mathrubhumi, it appears that the Kerala Film Chamber is aiming their new regulations at the film Empuraan. The Chamber has recently introduced a new rule where films due for release after March 25 must receive its approval before any contracts are signed. This timing of the decision seems to be strategically planned to impact the release of Empuraan.

Additionally, as reported by TOI, the Film Chamber is planning a symbolic protest on March 27, which aligns with the film’s premiere. Reports indicate that the Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK) has backed the Chamber, deeming the action a “legitimate request.

The symbolic work stoppage and actions taken by the Film Chamber are happening during a persistent discussion in the Malayalam film industry. This conversation was ignited by the Kerala Film Producers’ Association’s request for a complete industry halt starting June 1, in protest against the high salary requests of actors and asking for an exemption from entertainment tax.

As an ardent admirer of Empuraan, I couldn’t help but jump into the fray when Antony Perumbavoor, our beloved producer, shared a passionate rebuke on Facebook regarding KFPA’s film industry-wide shutdown. Many distinguished actors have echoed his sentiments, lending their support to his stance. However, it seems that KFPA hasn’t taken kindly to this, demanding Perumbavoor to retract and clarify his statement. To add fuel to the fire, they’ve even reached out to the Film Chamber for backing, intensifying the ongoing debate.

Critics of the strike and closure propose that these actions could endanger the jobs of thousands in the film industry. Additionally, a strike on March 27 might lead to substantial financial losses for Empuraan’s producers. Social media users responding to the news have noted that movies starring Mohanlal have frequently been launched on protest days and yet continue to be enthusiastically received by audiences.

In the discussion before, we touched on Empuraan – the sequel to the Lucifer series starring Mohanlal. This project is under the direction of Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy. The movie features a star-studded cast that includes Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Saniya Iyappan, and Jerome Flynn from Game of Thrones, among others, playing significant roles.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming film, Empuraan, is all set to grace our movie screens on March 27! This cinematic marvel is backed by the visionary duo Antony Perumbavoor and K. Subaskaran under their respective banners Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions. The film’s music has been beautifully crafted by Deepak Dev, while Sujith Vassudev brings his artistic eye to the cinematography, and Akhilesh Mohan skilfully handles the editing. With releases in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi, Empuraan promises a multi-lingual, cross-cultural experience for all movie enthusiasts!
