L2 Empuraan controversy: Suresh Gopi’s name removed from special thanks credits amid 24 other cuts

The movie titled “L2: Empuraan,” featuring Mohanlal, premiered in theaters on March 27, 2025. However, due to the heated debate surrounding it, the producers opted for significant revisions, making a total of 24 cuts.

In the midst of continuous discussions, the creators of the movie L2: Empuraan chose to exclude a “Thank You” message directed towards Suresh Gopi. Originally, this film was supposed to include a special title card for the actor-politician, but that has since been taken out.

Beyond expressing gratitude through a thank-you note to Suresh Gopi, it’s worth noting that the movie has experienced some modifications too. Approximately 2 minutes and 8 seconds have been trimmed from its initial length.

I’ve noticed that the creators have adjusted several segments, shortened the length of some intense moments, and even cut back on specific dialogues in certain discussions to enhance the overall viewing experience.

Discussion around the movie, L2: Empuraan, sparked passionately after its premiere due to widespread criticism. The film garnered significant attention in the community following protests by certain conservative groups who disagreed with the movie’s concept.

Previously, during the uproar, Mohanlal posted an apology on his social media accounts. He conveyed that he’s not fond of getting involved in such circumstances and chooses to move past incidents such as this to steer clear of additional drama or dispute.

Moving forward, the movie’s producer, Anthony Perumbavoor, made an appearance in public and addressed the media. He made it clear that the re-edit of the film had nothing to do with any influence from political groups.

In the course of our chat, it was affirmed by Perumbavoor that the next installment of the movie series, titled L3: The Beginning, is undoubtedly on the horizon.

Stepping into the cinema for L2: Empuraan, I can’t contain my excitement as a die-hard fan! This masterpiece, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is not just another movie; it’s the second chapter in the epic saga of the Lucifer franchise, planned as a trilogy. The story unfolds post the 2019 blockbuster, giving us a glimpse into the transformation of Kerala’s political landscape.

In this new rendition, Stephen Nedumpally centers his efforts around the crucial idea that power can completely distort an individual. With a purpose to rectify matters, he takes action once more. The movie features Mohanlal as the main character, along with Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Jerome Flynn, Rick Yune, and others in significant roles.
