Kurono Tokyo is reintroducing the iconic “SENSU NOS” watch with a modern twist, marking the 60th birthday of its founder Hajime Asaoka. The upcoming Jubilee Sensu EOL “Shiraai”, an exclusive anniversary timepiece, will be available later this month.

The characters “Shiraai” in Japanese are “白藍,” representing a blend of white and blue that gives off an icy, metallic gloss on the watch face. This color scheme has been used since the watchmaker incorporated it into his designs, last seen on the “Seiji” in 2021. In place of the classic guilloché from past “SENSU NOS” models, a chrysanthemum-wave pattern has been adopted. This new design creates a radial effect that harmoniously interacts with the dial’s vibrant color. The iconic ‘SENSU’ power-reserve indicator is present, and steel domes serve as indices, meticulously polished for an added touch of elegance. Black Kanji characters are placed at each hour marker, finishing off this distinctive dial design.

This remarkable watch is driven by the CaI.9133PWT movement, a timepiece mechanism that’s been meticulously customized within the modest Tokyo workshop of Asaoka. The base movement is no longer in production, and only a small quantity has been provided to Kurono Tokyo for this launch, making it quite exclusive. In a manner similar to last year’s “SENSU NOS” watches, Asaoka eliminated the date function from the caliber to reduce the number of elements on the dial, enhancing its simplicity.

The special anniversary edition of the Jubilee Sensu watch by Kurono Tokyo, named “Shiraai”, will be made available for purchase as a limited-time item at a price of $2,230 USD (not including taxes). Pre-orders can be placed starting from May 22nd, 11 a.m. Japan Standard Time, or May 21st, 10 p.m. Eastern Time, through Kurono Tokyo’s official website.
