KSUBI x Mowalola Throw It Back to Y2K’s Heyday

As a passionate follower, I’d say KSUBI and Mowalola are two standout labels that embody the pulse of the cultural moment. Hailing from Australia for denim fashion and London for Nigerian-born design, they both keep their fingers on the pulse of youth culture trends. Yet, they don’t just follow these trends; instead, each label takes a unique approach to challenging and redefining them in exciting ways.

In essence, it’s only logical that the two labels teamed up for their first joint project, given their shared boundary-crossing perspectives. Embracing Y2K aesthetics, they offer a wealth of fashion pieces tailored to Generation Z. The campaign, which exudes an early 2000s vibe, was captured by Jessica Mae Propper and features a dynamic group of emerging rappers including Suki Baby, Skaiwater, Strawberry, Chloe Spence, Izzy Spears, and Khadi.

The grungy scenes in this Los Angeles collection showcase trendsetters sporting the latest edgy fashion, including distressed pieces and custom cheetah prints. Notably, a bold Doberman design emerges among the new denim styles, one of which is a modern take on the ultra-low-rise jeans from Ksubi’s early 2000s collection.

In a statement, KSUBI’s Creative Director, Pip Edwards, expressed that due to Mowalola being at the forefront of today’s most prominent designers, she was high on our list of potential collaborators for our next project.

Mowa’s daring design philosophy, which thrives on controversy, caught our attention immediately. When we began blending our distinctive styles and worlds, it quickly became apparent that we were on the verge of something remarkable. Viewing the brand from Mowa’s perspective and vice versa allowed us to push boundaries even further, resulting in a collection that perfectly encapsulates the rebellious essence of both brands.

The KSUBI and Mowalola collaboration collection is currently available for purchase at their respective official online stores, as well as in every KSUBI retail outlet around the globe.
