As a long-time follower of Tamil cinema, I must say that the recent clarification by KS Ravikumar about his involvement in Rajinikanth’s “Jailer” is an interesting turn of events. Being privy to the intricacies of the industry for decades, it’s not uncommon to hear such misunderstandings and speculations.
The 2023 blockbuster “Jailer,” starring Rajinikanth, remains one of this year’s most acclaimed films and has been praised for multiple reasons by viewers. It was directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who also penned its script. However, there have been rumors suggesting that KS Ravikumar, a director with whom Thalaiva has collaborated on numerous other projects, was involved in co-writing the screenplay as well. But recently, the veteran director clarified the truth about this matter.
During an interview with Nelson Dilipkumar, Lingaa director KS Ravikumar clarified that contrary to reports suggesting his involvement in Jailer as its screenwriter, he was not associated with the film in that capacity. The filmmaker explained that it was actually Rajinikanth who shared the story of the movie, and Ravikumar, as a friend, merely offered some suggestions for improvements.
Ravikumar shared that Rajinikanth himself narrated the Jailer’s tale to him, and he offered two suggestions in response. However, there seems to be some misunderstanding as people are assuming he’s a part of the film. He wants to make it clear that this is not the case.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share my excitement when I heard Director Nelson Dilipkumar of Jailer echoing the same sentiments about the speculation swirling around. He graciously clarified and let us in on a secret, “I couldn’t care less; it didn’t faze me. In the end, the truth will be revealed to all.
KS Ravikumar, who is close friends with Rajinikanth, frequently shares stories about the popular actor, whom he also regards as a friend. Previously, during an appearance on Chat With Chithra, this director spoke about the financial struggles experienced by his movie Lingaa, in which Rajinikanth played the lead role.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share an insight: I found myself grappling with the outcome of a recent movie project, and I attribute much of its fate to the involvement of Rajinikanth during the editing phase. He reportedly hindered my use of Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI), cut a crucial dance sequence, among other decisions, which I believe contributed significantly to its less-than-optimal performance.
Returning to the topic of Jailer, this movie was brought to life by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures. It made its big-screen debut on August 10, 2023. In addition to Rajinikanth as the main character, the film featured Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Yogi Babu, Sunil, Mirnaa Menon, and others in significant roles.
