In 1955, DC Comics debuted Krypto in Adventure Comics #210 as a temporary character within a unique storyline. However, due to the immense likability of Krypto, he soon became a regular figure in Superman and Superboy comic books. The writers explained his origins by portraying him as an experimental subject launched into space using the same rocket that eventually transported Superman to Earth. A meteor caused his spaceship to veer off course, but ultimately, he ended up on Earth where he reconnected with Kal-El.

In the film Superman, the crew employed Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) to fashion Krypto. While filming, a real dog named Jolene was present for reference. The design of Krypto was modeled after director James Gunn’s own pet, Ozu. To stay true to the comic book depictions, Gunn decided that Krypto would only bark and remain silent in the movie.
In different animated productions such as DC League of Super-Pets and the Krypto the Superdog series from 2005 to 2007, Krypto has made an appearance. His entrance into live-action films marks a change in tone, with clips from trailers showing him sprinting through snow attracting significant interest.
In the upcoming Supergirl movie, it’s been verified that Krypto will make an appearance as well. The scope of his character within the new DC Universe is growing, and there’s a lot of enthusiasm among fans, leading to high levels of early interaction on social platforms.
