Actress Kristen Stewart, who was previously nominated for an Oscar, has stepped away from her role as the lead in the upcoming English-language drama film “Out of This World,” directed by Spanish filmmaker Albert Serra. She had initially been set to play the main character.
The plot revolves around a group of Americans journeying to Russia during the Ukrainian conflict, aiming to resolve a financial disagreement. The film delves into the longstanding antagonism between Russia and the United States over several decades.
Who is joining the Out of This World cast?
Instead of Stewart, the role in Out of This World’s cast has been taken over by Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actress Riley Keough. She will share screen time with F. Murray Abraham and Liza Yankovskaia. Following her stint in Daisy Jones and the Six, Keough can be seen next in Noah Baumbach’s upcoming coming-of-age drama Jay Kelly alongside George Clooney, as well as in Karim Aïnouz’s thriller drama Rosebush Pruning with Elle Fanning. It’s worth noting that Stewart was initially slated for Aïnouz’s film adaptation but also ended up being replaced by Keough due to scheduling issues.
In the near future, Serra will take on his debut as a director of an English film. This opportunity comes after he was recognized with Best Film and Best Director nominations at the 2023 César Awards for his work on Pacifiction, the thrilling drama. The production is a collaboration between Les Films du Losange, Idéale Audience Group, Andergraun Films, along with Felix Culpa, Rosa Filmes, and Forma Pro.
In a statement, Lesort expressed his excitement for the meeting with Riley Keough, stating that it’s something they are deeply enthusiastic about. He considers Riley as an actress who possesses intense talent, able to bring intricate characters to life with uncommon accuracy.
