In his role as a criminal, Chameleon often collaborated with fellow adversaries of Spider-Man such as Kingpin, Hammerhead, and Kraven. After being expelled from the country, he found himself back in Russia for a while, but eventually made his way back to the United States where he resumed his life of criminal activity.

It wasn’t until the famous comic book storyline “Kraven’s Last Hunt” that this relationship became known. The Chameleon, whose real name is Dmitri Smerdyakov, was born from an affair between Kraven’s father, Nikolai Kravinoff, and their servant Sonya Smerdyakov.
