Kraven the Hunter Is Sony’s Spider-Man Universe’s Last Movie ‘for Now’

As a seasoned gamer and avid comic book fan, I must admit that Sony’s decision to put their Spider-Man Universe on hold after Kraven leaves me feeling a bit like Peter Parker just as he’s about to swing into action – deflated.

It appears that Sony’s Spider-Man universe has temporarily paused its activities after the debut of Kraven the Hunter.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, a world where characters frequently connected to Spider-Man from Marvel Comics reside, was launched in 2018 with the release of Ruben Fleischer’s Venom. Subsequently, it continued with Venom: Let There Be Carnage in 2021, Morbius in 2022, Madame Web in 2024, and most recently, Venom: The Last Dance also came out in 2024.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super pumped to share that I’ll be diving into the Sony Spider-Man Universe with “Kraven the Hunter,” hitting U.S. theaters on December 13, 2024! Can’t wait to join you all in this thrilling adventure!

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is being put on hold after Kraven

At the moment, it’s uncertain what lies ahead for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, as although various projects have been revealed to be in progress, there are no definitive release dates or public announcements about starting production on a particular movie.

Based on reports from TheWrap, it appears that Sony currently has no intentions to produce any more movies set within the Spider-Man Universe for now.

The article indicates that Sony seems to be concentrating on projects closely related to Spider-Man. A top talent agent told TheWrap, “They’ve explored what they needed to explore for now. The focus is primarily on the upcoming fourth Spider-Man film.” Additionally, a second source from Sony revealed that the studio is now investing in Holland’s highly anticipated fourth Spider-Man movie, the next episode in the popular Spider-Verse animated series titled Beyond the Spider-Verse, and a Spider-Noir television show starring Nicolas Cage – projects that capitalize on, rather than deviate from, the main allure of Spider-Man.

As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that I’m looking forward to Kraven the Hunter, directed by the talented J. C Chandor. In this film, Aaron Taylor-Johnson steps into the title role. The star-studded cast also includes Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, and Russell Crowe. This R-rated movie promises an action-packed adventure!

In contrast, the fourth Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring Tom Holland is planned to be released on July 24, 2026, in cinemas. However, the release dates for Spider-Noir and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse have not been disclosed as of now.
