On Thursday, March 20, 2025, KJ Adams Jr, a college basketball player for the Kansas Jayhawks in the Big 12 Conference, was hurt during a match against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Coach Bill Self of Kansas expressed concern that the injury could be severe and might keep the promising forward off the court for as long as a year.
What happened to KJ Adams Jr?
In the initial round of the NCAA Tournament against Arkansas, Adams Jr. experienced an Achilles injury during the game with Kansas. With just over three minutes left on the clock, Kansas held a slim lead of 67-64. As Adams attempted to grab a defensive rebound, he seemed to injure his Achilles tendon upon landing. Struggling to move forward, he fell to the ground. His teammates, Zeke Mayo and AJ Storr, assisted him in standing up before he was eventually removed from the court.
Prior to his injury, Adams had scored 13 points during the game. However, after the injury occurred, Arkansas managed to mount a comeback and ultimately triumphed, ending the match with a score of 79-72.
In the game before he was injured, Adams contributed 13 points. But following his injury, Arkansas fought back and eventually clinched victory with a final score of 79-72.
As a devoted admirer, I’m optimistic for brighter days ahead, but I can’t help but feel uncertain that we’ll receive positive news regarding Adams’ injury. The thought of losing the game is tough enough, but the possibility of him being sidelined for an entire year on top of that is a significant setback.
In simpler terms, when asked if he had any message for his team after a challenging season, Coach Self indicated that he would probably concentrate on KJ Adams and his injury at present. He mentioned that there was a young player who was going through a tough time with his family, and now was not the appropriate moment to discuss such matters. Instead, they should focus their attention on supporting their teammate for now.
Adams hails from Austin, Texas, standing at an impressive 2.01 meters (6 feet 7 inches) tall and tipping the scales at 235 pounds. During his first year, he studied at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School before transferring to Westlake High School. It is said that several universities, including Baylor, Georgetown, Arkansas, Texas, Iowa, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma, extended offers to him. However, Adams ultimately decided to attend the University of Kansas.
