Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 cut content is a pile of gold that contains what could have been my favorite combat mechanic ever

As a dedicated fan, I must admit that I’ve always appreciated the meticulous historical accuracy that Warhorse Studios has been known for in their games, such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance. However, with the upcoming sequel, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, it seems they’re veering towards a more fantastical take on medieval times. The world is now filled with superhuman knights and miraculously intact peasant teeth, which is quite a departure from the grim reality I was used to.

Still, there’s one combat mechanic that I can’t help but miss from the original game. Its omission in Kingdom Come 2 leaves me yearning for a darker, more immersive fantasy experience.

In my opinion, there was this extraordinary action role-playing game that had players experience the consequences of their actions even in their dreams. A character with a shady past, riddled with deceit, theft, and violence, might find themselves battling spirits and demons during slumber. Victory over these nighttime foes would grant XP during awake hours. However, failure would result in a significant decline in the quality of sleep.

Instead of a common player, a virtuous one might encounter an entirely distinct reality upon shutting their eyes – they could envision a route leading to a sparkling concealed fortune in their dreams, for instance.

For a while now, games similar to Red Dead Redemption and Fable, known as Role-Playing Games (RPGs), have incorporated moral systems in their gameplay. This is usually reflected in the dialogue choices offered, the paths you can choose for the storyline, or even how your character looks. For instance, if a player in Fable 3 chose immoral actions, they might end up growing dark, sooty black feathered wings of a fallen angel by the game’s conclusion.

In a less common, somewhat out-of-style approach, Warhorse had an innovative plan to incorporate dream sequences with a distinct karmic twist. It’s unfortunate that this creative avenue for exploring the subconscious of knights won’t be realized in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Additionally, there were other intriguing elements from the game’s scrapped content, such as a substantial blackmail plot within the main storyline and infants, which Warhorse was concerned might meet a grim fate at the hands of players who would give nightmares a run for their money.
