As a long-time fan of Spawn and comic book adaptations, I’ve been eagerly following the development of the upcoming King Spawn movie since its announcement back in 2017. Jeremy Renner was initially cast as Detective Twitch Williams in the film, but with the numerous delays and changes in the script, his involvement remains uncertain.
After some good news about the next installment of “Spawn,” there’s been a lot of chatter lately regarding Jeremy Renner‘s role in the film. Following Todd McFarlane’s announcement of the movie’s official title and completion of the script, fans have been eager to find out if Renner will continue to portray Twitch Williams or if someone new will take on the part.
Is Jeremy Renner still attached to Jamie Foxx’s King Spawn movie?
In 2018, it was announced that Jeremy Renner had been officially cast as Detective Twitch Williams for the movie “King Spawn.” However, his participation in the project isn’t yet certain, due to numerous revisions and delays in the script’s development. More recently, Jason Blum shared on platform X that the upcoming sequel will indeed be called “King Spawn,” and he even released the title page of the screenplay.
Last year, Blum shared optimistic news about the anticipated Spawn movie release in 2025 during an interview with Comic Book. He further disclosed that they were nearing completion of the script and once finished, they would secure a director and an actor to begin production. This suggests potential alterations to the sequel’s cast. However, the upcoming days will unveil the definitive cast for King Spawn.
The 1997 film “Spawn” drew inspiration from the namesake character created by Todd McFarlane for his image comics. For over two decades, McFarlane had been working on a sequel to this project. In 2017, during San Diego Comic-Con, he announced that a deal had been reached with Blumhouse Productions to make the long-awaited follow-up. The next year saw the announcement of Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner as the actors portraying the main characters, Twitch and AI Simons, respectively.
As a dedicated gamer following the latest news on the Spawn film franchise, I was thrilled to hear about the progress being made all these years. But then came the disappointing announcement from Jason Blum in 2020 that left me feeling deflated. In an interview with Abu Dhabi Culture, he revealed that the long-awaited Spawn sequel would abandon the previous script and take a new direction instead.
He explained that they wanted to get the script right and wanted it to be great. “So, we’re going to make the movie, definitely. I don’t know when we are going to make the movie. We are actually kind of re-tackling… We’re going down a different direction with the story than we had in the past, but we are not going to make the movie until that script is great. But one of these days, it will be great, and we will make it,” he added. With the script now officially completed, plot and casting details can be expected soon.
