As a dedicated fan who’s been following Chicago PD since its inception, I can say that the absence of familiar faces doesn’t always mean trouble brewing. It’s a common tactic used to reduce production costs and keep the storylines fresh. Burgess being MIA in the first two episodes didn’t raise any red flags for me, especially considering her career aspirations.
It appears that similar to the 11th season, some characters may be absent from various episodes during Chicago PD’s 12th season, just as Burgess was missing in the initial two episodes of this season.
This doesn’t imply any negative consequences for the characters when they’re absent from an episode. Many shows employ this strategy to cut down on production costs, as it’s cost-effective to have actors missing from certain episodes. For instance, “Chicago PD” has been practicing this approach for quite some time.
In the first episode of Chicago PD, they clarified that Burgess was attending a police conference, but she suggested returning when the major drug case arose. It was Martel who persuaded her to remain away during the episode.
Is Kim Burgess getting a promotion in Chicago PD season 12?
As a supporter, I found myself rooting for Burgess to stick around at the conference for his professional growth. I couldn’t help but let him know that doing so could be instrumental in his career advancement. Subtly, I suggested that he was on track for a promotion this season.
It’s clear that an individual will receive a promotion, and here’s why: Firstly, there are no detectives remaining in the Intelligence department, which suggests that a new position might be needed to fill a leadership role. Secondly, Burgess has consistently demonstrated hard work and dedication, making it long overdue for her to be promoted.
According to Gwen Sigan in an interview with TV Insider, it appears that one of the team members will receive a promotion. Since it’s known that Burgess has been eager to advance in her career, Martel recognized this ambition and encouraged Burgess to remain at the conference. While she wasn’t able to support Ruzek during his pursuit of Martel’s killer, this new opportunity could prove beneficial for Burgess.
In the upcoming episode 3 of season 12 for “Chicago PD”, Burgess is set to return. This time around, viewers will witness her grappling with the loss of Martel, all while assisting in a case centered on a series of armed robberies.
Chicago PD airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
