As a devoted follower of Tamil cinema, I must admit that Khushbu Sundar‘s recent revelation about regretting her role in Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe resonates with me on a personal level. Having watched numerous films from the industry, I’ve come to appreciate the nuances and complexities that can sometimes be lost in translation during filmmaking.
Khushbu’s experience mirrors my own feelings when I’ve seen favorite actors accept roles that didn’t quite live up to our expectations. It’s a bit like ordering your favorite dish at a restaurant, only to find it served differently than you imagined.
On a lighter note, I can’t help but think of the classic line from Forrest Gump: “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get.” Sometimes, even the most promising roles can end up being a bit sour, just like an old-fashioned candy that didn’t quite hit the mark. But as they say, every experience adds to our rich tapestry of memories and understanding in the world of cinema. And for that, I’m eternally grateful!
Recently, Khushbu Sundar admitted that she has second thoughts about her role in the film Annaatthe, which starred Rajinikanth. During an interview, when asked if there were any movies she wishes she hadn’t been involved with, she expressed this sentiment.
In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, actress Khushbu Sundar shared some regrets about her career in Hindi films and expressed that she wishes she hadn’t been involved in certain Tamil movies. Specifically, she mentioned a film she worked on with Rajinikanth where the role didn’t turn out as promised and there was no on-screen partnership with the actor.
Regarding the film under discussion, Khushbu chose not to disclose its title, but she did share that in the initial stages, the project had her and actress Meena penciled in as possible leading ladies.
Originally, I was led to believe that I wouldn’t be working with Rajinikanth in this film, but upon accepting the project, I found out that no other actress had been paired with him. As we moved forward, however, it turned out that Rajini sir acquired a co-star, and my character was adjusted to accommodate this. This is when I started feeling like I was being oversimplified or caricaturized in the role.
Initially, Khushbu’s character in the movie was planned to be cheerful, humorous, and full of life. However, after watching the film during the dubbing process, she expressed her disappointment with the final product.

In 2021, the movie “Annaatthe,” starring Rajinikanth as the main character, was directed by Siva (known as Kanguva). The film tells an action-drama story about Kaalaiyan, a Thanjavur sarpanch who deeply cares for his younger sister.
Following the elopement of his sister with her partner and their relocation to West Bengal, Kaalaiyan embarks on a journey to find her. In West Bengal, he uncovers the challenges she encounters due to a particular business adversary. Consequently, he chooses to handle the situation independently, offering covert assistance to ease her troubles.
In the main character’s part, Rajinikanth was cast. Keerthy Suresh portrayed his on-screen sister, while Nayanthara was introduced as his love interest. Additionally, notable actors such as Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj, Soori, Pandiarajan, and others took up significant roles in the film.
