Kevin Spacey Responds to Guy Pearce Allegations: ‘Grow Up’

As a fervent admirer putting pen to paper, I’d like to share a perspective on the recent exchange between Kevin Spacey and Guy Pearce regarding their interactions during the filming of L.A. Confidential in 1997. In his own words, Kevin has stated that Guy should mature beyond these recollections, implying that he, Spacey, does not consider Pearce a victim of any inappropriate behavior.

On a video shared on X on Monday, Spacey responded to the comments, stating through The Hollywood Reporter that Pearce could have discussed any concerns he had with Spacey during filming or at a later point. Spacey further stated that his response was essentially “grow up,” and claimed that Pearce visited him in Georgia while Spacey was shooting the 1997 mystery thriller Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

Spacey mentioned that he had collaborated with someone in the past. If anything he did back then caused distress, the person could have contacted him directly for a discussion. Instead, they chose to speak to the media, which are now inquiring about his reaction to their statements. If you’re curious about his response, my suggestion would be to maturely handle such situations.

Here’s a more conversational and less confrontational way of expressing the same idea: “It seems like you shared that information with the press but not with me, which makes me wonder if it aligns with the story you’ve been telling about being a victim. I didn’t realize we had misunderstood each other regarding spending time together. Perhaps there was another reason, I’m not sure, but it doesn’t make sense to me. It feels like you led me on, is that correct? However, here we are now after all these years, and if you’re open to talking, I am too, anytime, anywhere. We could even do it here on X if you prefer. I have nothing to hide. But Guy, I think it’s important for both of us to grow up a bit and recognize that life isn’t always about being a victim.

What did Guy Pearce say about Kevin Spacey?

Recently, on the Awards Chatter podcast via Entertainment Weekly, I had the chance to share some thoughts about my past working experience with Spacey. To be clear, it was not an enjoyable or positive experience for me. Although I didn’t endure the same level of alleged victimization as others have claimed, I still consider myself a victim in certain aspects.

Pearce stated, “Although I may have experienced some level of victimization, I was by no means a victim to the same extent as others who have been targeted by sexual predators. However, I reacted in a way many do – downplaying it and thinking ‘That’s nothing, that’s nothing.’ I did this for about five months.

Pearce further explained that he made an effort to disregard any inappropriate actions by Spacey during filming, yet acknowledged feeling “intimidated” due to the actor’s imposing figure and aura whenever present. However, despite this fear, Pearce asserted that Spacey undeniably singled out the young actor. Additionally, Pearce mentioned that he felt secure only on days when actor Simon Baker was around, as Spacey would primarily direct his attention towards Baker instead.

Pearce remarked, “Kevin was intimidating to me since he’s both aggressive and exceptionally charismatic, and incredibly skilled at his work. He had an impactful presence. However, being young and easily influenced, I found myself in a vulnerable position, and he took advantage of me without a doubt.

I feel most secure when Simon Baker is on set, as I’m quickly discarded like a boiling pot, and Kevin pays more attention to him since he’s ten times more attractive than me.” (This version maintains the original sentiment while using slightly different wording for a smoother read.)
